Transmission oil???
« on: September 25, 2004, 08:13:32 PM »

What is everyone using in there transmissions? I was going to change mine to Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear lube. Has anyone tried this and what results have you had? On Mobils site they don't recommend it if motor oil is specified.
Thanks    [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Outlaw Racing,

I have been using Redline Heavy Shockproof Synthetic Oil in my tranny for many years. Shifts smoother, runs cooler. It looks kile Pepto Bismal.

Their have been postings on HTT in regards to not using HD SYN 3 in trannys, only in crankcase as it does not have properties reqired for lubricating transmissions.

I'm with geezerglide. I've got a Baker set-up in my tranny and Baker recommends running RedLine Shockproof. Just be sure to get the Heavy-Duty  stuff, They make a lightweight tranny fluid as well.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I have a blue 2005 Fat Boy with 600 miles on it. Harley dealer says, if I change to any oil other than Harley brands, my warrenty is void. They said these tests are false. I think my dealer is full of bull. what would you suggest?

Have the dealer put it in writing.....then by him some depends.

I switched from Syn3 (noisy, clunky) to Redline Heavy Shockproof.  All is now well.

Bye the by.............the only thing "void" is apparently the dealers brain chamber. [smiley=deal2.gif]  The HD or extended warranty is not dependent upon the exclusive use of HD oil products.  Oils that are approved to the required grade/specification are acceptable.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like Redline heavy shockproof is the way to go.
Also, has anyone heard about Donnie Smith exhaust? Quality of chrome, how easy is it to map? etc... Harley also told me, if I get a power commander, it is a after market device and also void warrenties.

Did the motor company tell you this in writing?

If you can get the dealer to put that in writing my friend, you have just won the lottery! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
