My bike is 838 wet & the tires can handle 1378, gives me 540 lbs left for load. I'm 200, wife is 110. Add back 9 lbs for lighter tires and that's 239 lbs of crap I can carry which is way more than enough, for me.
Take your bike, wife and loaded bags to a scale and weigh it, first with both tires on the scale, then with just the rear tire on the scale.  You might be surprised by both numbers.

My 13 RGC with me on it, full tank and my leathers...no tour
Pac on no BSR no gear needed for a road trip tips the scale at 1140 pounds, so for me I'm gona spend the extra $50to 100 bucks on a tire with the max rating I can get. Error on the side of safety of you must ... Just my 2 cents

Baggers shipped with 74 load rated tires for decades. The old shovels, Evo's - heck even an '03 Road Glide did.

If y'all are running these things that heavy you should probably check your GVWR. On my 13 RG it is only 1360. That's about 200 lbs less than the stock tires are rated for.

From what I read, load and speed ratings are somewhat based on heat build up.  Heat is generated by going fast.  If you're prone to riding 80 and above all the time, having the specified load rating may be the best bet.  Even if you're under the load limits, as they've been saying, better safe than sorry.

Well keep on thinking that.

Goldwings check in at 900+ lbs. Here's a list of rear tire replacement options, for their current 2016 model:

Bridgestone G704 EXEDRA 180/60R-16 M/C 74H
Metzler ME888 180/60-16 - Bias Ply - 74 - H
Dunlop D402 MT90-16 - 74
Dunlop American Elite MT90-16 - Bias Ply - 74 - Multi-Tread - H

Huh. Bunch of 74 rated tires. Go figure.

HD just has everyone conned into buying $300 POS Dunlop rear tires that whine and cup and last a fraction of what they should.

The rear tire on Honda GL1800 models is a 180/60R16 80H.  During at least part of that time Dunlop provided the OEM tires, and they were 180/60R16 80H tires.  If you look on Dunlop's web site they show a recommendation of an Elite 3 180/60R16 80H replacement tire for 2001-2015.

If you want to BS the folks on this site you're going to need to do a better job finding real facts to back you up.  And you still don't know anything about how that index is determined.  It is not just determined by static weight measurements.

I'm not trying to BS anyone. Go price a rear tire for a wing and look for yourself what is available. Almost all of the tires are load rated 74. Just because Dunlops recommendation is rated 80H doesn't mean squat because in reality they can and do safely run 74s.

I'll save everyone the trouble of looking. The only tires rated 80H there are the two Dunlop Elites. Even the Dunlop D250 is a 74. Point being, if a 900+ lb Wing can run 74's, my little old RG can too.

Well, it's your life.  If you decide without evidence that the Wing has the exact same front and rear weight distribution as your RG, then you must be right (sarc).  But as grc has pointed out, load ratings are based on many factors, including both standing still and moving.

I've always wanted to take a bagger and put it on a set of chassis setup scales just to see what ya got. Also like to see if weight distribution is adjustable, I'm guessing yes but not as sensitive as adjusting weight on a car. Anyone give me some insight on this?

Ride em if ya got em

edit: I'll borrow some chassis scales and report my findings. Or will I?
