We rode Moonshiner 28, the Dragon & the Cherohala on the 22nd, a beautiful 230+mile day until the rear tire blew out while cruising at 65 mph on 129 near Murphy, NC :nervous:

Few things are more nerve-racking than a blowout on a motorcycle. Glad you're okay. Nice picture, above.

Glad you are OK. I had a rear blow out and it was not fun.

 :-\

Rapid tire wear and/or under inflation are critical on bikes.  Can any of you elaborate on how or what led you up to a blow out.  :nixweiss:

I pay casual attention to the air pressure and tread wear on my truck and car,  but the bike needs a weary eye when it comes to tires. :drink:

Tail of the Dragon on the 21st.

on my garage wall hangs a warning from the sheriff in that area for speeding. Yes, I was pulled over on the ONLY straightway on the Dragon and given warning for doing 50 in a 35 MPH zone. The wife frowns every time she sees the warning hanging in the garage. Lol

On my last ride there were three cops sitting in different areas. Did not see them pull anyone over.

Most of the time they are assisting the ambulance/rescue workers as they attend to those that think they can overpower the dragon...

Or escorting one of the 18 wheelers that mistake the road as a good shortcut over the mountains.... We've had that happen several times while riding the Dragon, and We were grateful for the warnings of the highway patrol to pull off into the next available pullout/wide shoulder.

Few years back about 20 of us were riding through, lead bike got a ticket for 50 coming out of a corner on the NC side headed south, we all sailed on by.  Long story he refused to pay at first, eventually cost him over $200.  He will frown if anyone mentions it.

While we were waiting for the Sheriff to write up the warnings, and they were both really cool and on Road Kings, two sport bikes went by heading north at around 70 MPH, I asked the officer what was up with that and he said "there is no way for us to catch the sport bikes on Harleys."
