Chrome Peeling from FLHRSE3 wheel
« on: March 22, 2008, 08:20:15 PM »

Finally, enough snow has melted to get the bike out for some spring cleaning. These images are "clickable."

Has anyone else experienced this? My only visit to the dealership was my purchase. The bike is 15 months old with 5,500 miles. I'm guessing I'm out of luck with regards to warranty coverage.

Chrome peeling has been a problem before (was big w/the SEEG's). You are still under the MoCo original (2yr) warranty and I would think it would be covered. Get the bike back to a dealer as soon as possible. If you don't get any satisfaction w/them contact the MoCo direct.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go ahead and Hi-jack my own thread. Has anyone seen the metal flake in the flames peel?

My wheels & mirrors started popping chrome in less than 1 year. Dealer replaced under warranty. Replaced with aftermarket wheels & mirrors.

I have in the past given the dealer time to do the right thing with a certain manufacturer that starts with an I and ends with a n. When I felt I was tredding water I wnet directly to the factory regarding basic quality issues, imo as you describe. The results were quick and just. Be sure and let your dealer know as your level of frustration rises that you may contact the MOCO directly to support the dealer getting your issue resolved-so long as iy is done with mutual respect what reasonable man could find fault with you protecting you $$$$ investment. FOr what we paid the occassional problem shop=uld be resolved ASAP IMO.

That's nasty.  And BTW, it's real gold leaf.  That wheel is horrible.  Have answers to questions ready like where do you store it?  How often do you clean the wheels (HD recommends weekly in the manual)  Are there corrosive products stored in the same place?, I've heard all these personnaly.  I never thought I'd say this but, I'd rather a herad gasket leak than paint and chrome peeling.  Do you have a leaker too?

Stored clean, by itself in a 6' X 12' enclosed trailer with flow through ventilation. Put up clean. washed and waxed on 1st day out in the sunlight. No salt exposure ever. Gets hand washed with mild dish detergent. ????

No gasket leaks. No mechanical problems to date.

Sure sounds like a bad day at both the chrome booth and the paint line-wow that would be incredibly coincidental-maybe you should jump right to Milwaukee with that kinda of stuff-

I rode 120 miles to the nearest dealer. They photographed the problems and said they'd be in touch. Felt sure Moco would replace the wheel at a minimum. In all fairness the paint could be a road hazard, then again maybe not. Great day for a ride through the Southern Rockies.

Well....a month has come and gone. I got the call that the wheel was in. I asked them to confirm they had the right parts before I make the 2 hour trip back.......After making that 2 hour trip, again, they figured out they'd ordered a 2006 wheel.

FLHRSE3 wheels are on backorder with no progected date of availability. After I pitched a bitch, the owner did comp me the labor on the installation of a new rear tire.

Went through the same thing. I refused to go back to a stock wheel since Harley chrome bites! Mirrors took a crap too. Much happier with the new custom wheels. Dealer replaced both (no cost, price for wheels were the same as stock) and got a great price on a set of wheels with matching rotors and tires. These are Covington Customs 21" front 18" rear.
