IDS warranty replacement
« on: July 01, 2008, 07:32:35 PM »

I just had my 10K service and they replaced my IDS drive under warranty , there was a problem with the bearings .

The nice thing is , the dealer caught it before I did and replaced it without a blink.

The did ask if I'd noticed any problems, other than a bit more rolling resistance which I'd told them about at 5K , only a slight decrease in mpg.

Perhaps the new one will work out better.

I also dad SE heavy fork oil put in , the Tech said they are only replacing fork oil now at 50K intervals.  (07's and up ) As I'd made this switch on my FXDWG3 I thought I'd try on the FLHX, it is a definite improvement.

This is something all of us with them installed should keep an eye on.

A bad bearing is not normally quiet.  How many miles on the IDS?  Could it have been a poor install when they pressed the bearing?  I'll keep an eye on mine.

Just as soon as you finish installing my saddlebag lights.

Thems are easy. We could do them in an afternoon or evening. Now, if you want them to function as run-turn-brake instead of just run-brake, it will take a bit more time.

Please let us know what to do to make them function as turn signals also.  Uh oh, think we've hijacked this thread.  Maybe we should start another about the sb lights.

Jerry, I made a break-out harness that goes into the rear light harness downstream of my Kuryakyn module. I grabbed the positive leads that run to the turn signals and used that to feed the spoilers. My turn sgnals and spoilers now function in harmony.

You are right Jim. I think 1/2 the problem will be if they don't press the bearing in properly. I did my own, including pressing it in so I will only have myself to blame. THE MUFFMAN
