What the poop on this?

Who all here has it and how good is it?

$244 from Surdyke and I guess I could get my rear whell balanced again whilst it is off...the foot tingle at 2800-3000 6th gear is getting old...I have checked and torqued everything I could get a wrench on, alignment looks good, I checked it with 2 strings and a square....

Thanks for your time and opinions.   :drink:

Wise azz remarks and sarcasm are expected.  :P

Agree with Chuck.  Thing looks like chit, but the bike rides so much better, I just ignore how it looks.  Glad the bags are on all the time.

Low speed noticeable improvement & 6th gear is more friendly with IDS.

I got it , chromed it , installed my self & love it for the reasons stated above. If you are going a 2 into 1, chroming it is a must. THE MUFFMAN

What do you think about powder coating it to match the bike, instead of chroming?

Since it sits next to the chrome wheel, I think that would be the normal choice. But then again, we're talking about iski. :nixweiss:

That works as well.I installed my brother in laws at the same time and he had his powder coated before installation. His is hidden because of the tru duels. Just hated the look of it the way it was. THE MUFFMAN

IDS is the Isolated Drive System, or cush-drive. Basically, it's a rubber isolation bumper inside the rear sprocket to remove the pulses delivered to the rear wheel. It only fits the 2007 and up touring bikes, but before the 6-speed came out, we didn't need it. You're safe.

Thanks again... I had looked in my manual when someone mentioned it a week or so back.  Good reason I couldn't find it.

Chief, would say I march to a different drummer, but I don't march since I saw the Music Man a while back, anyway.

Muffman - am considering powdercoating on a few parts & that is one of the parts that needs something, since an old sock over it would be an improvement.

That's it.  It's standard on all 08 touring models.  I have it on my 07 Jester and came stock on the 08 SG.  It was worth the money, it really smooths things out.

I had it installed as soon as it was available. This is another case where Harley was late catching up with the industry. It works very well and is probably the best accessory money can buy for a '07 Touring. Never worried about the looks. It is barely visible under the hard bags I have installed.

Ride safely,

Muffman - I too am a chromaholic, and have an RK (12 steps in so many places to buy more & more & more chrome was my 12 step program) to prove it.  On the jester I never got bit by the chrome bug, so have been contemplating how to spend enormous amounts of money on crappolla the average citizen will not even notice customize this bike a little differently than I did on the RK.  Am considering a few pieces to powder coat.  Have not decided but since I have true duals, the IDS doesn't show that much especially since it's on the "low side".

Agreed!  Stealth chrome or powder coat & you have to be almost on the ground to even see it.

At the average bike night, with an average guy walking around, would bet they would not even know what a swing arm is, where it is, or what it does.  Much less know to look for it.

Of course I know that the swing arm is where the tiny magic gnome lives that decides how much the rear of the bike can dance around, based on the amount of beer/alcohol he has drunk during or before the ride.

Nor would they see the IDS pulley, behind the bag and pipe and pointed at the ground.

You'll get more bang for the buck by finding a place to put the chrome girls from trucker's flaps. ;)

Better yet, polished SS 12-point oil pan bolts. I think I can see 3 of the 12 without laying on the ground. ;D

Oh, and the two pipe plugs in the front of he oil cooler adapter? Yep, got those in polished ss too.

I'm a sick, sick man. :(

I bet you have a set, plus a spare set already, Mike.   :2vrolijk_21:

Might as well paint the insides of the side covers & the insides of fairings & chrome plate the back of the license plate & paint the letters in on the tires with color matched paint.

You would get more comments on a $2.97 piece of chrome like that, or a set of bull nutz hanging off the rear fender, than $?k spent on chrome/powder coat.

I am going to leave this thread for a while, maybe forever, since I suffer from the same exact affliction as Chuck & Mike....

There's no place without chrome, there's no place without chrome, there's no place without chrome.........

You would get more comments on a $2.97 piece of chrome like that, or a set of bull nutz hanging off the rear fender, than $?k spent on chrome/powder coat.

OK - I have Bull Nuts on my 6 years olds bike...  He doesn't get it, but I laugh myself silly every time I see them.

I'm a sick dad.

My cousin in Australia, where it started years ago, said that the women started hangin the nutz on their trucks to symbolize that the old man has had a vasectomy...

Every time I see a redneck limo with them I chuckle...

We used to cut them off of hogs then let them go to fatten up a year more before they got whacked.
I never thought of keepin them and hangin them off my bumper...

That works as well.I installed my brother in laws at the same time and he had his powder coated before installation. His is hidden because of the tru duels. Just hated the look of it the way it was. THE MUFFMAN

I would say about the same. I paid about $200.00 to have it chromed. I think the normal rate is about $300.00 to chrome a sprocket. In Canada anyway. A friend of mine spent 6 months in California a few years back and someone he had chrome a whack of stuff was less than 1/2 of the rate up here. I think the chrome sprocket looks good with the chrome wheel & belt guard. THE MUFFMAN

Now when I see a set of these on a bike it's going to be tough not to ask the bike owner if they enjoy riding a guy (not that there is anything wrong with...... hey, there is something REALLY wrong with that!)
