Dumb Chit with Radio
« on: September 23, 2005, 01:48:33 AM »

Don't know how else to put it. By pressing the wrong buttons at the wrong time I managed to kill the display on the radio.Everything was working but I could not see where anything was. I managed to turn the contrast adjustment to the point where nothing was displayed. This is not good because of all the level of menu's and soft keys and no way to see any of it including the contrast adjustment. Had to get the book out and took thirty minutes to get the display back. I had to get to the audio set-up screen and hit the soft key for the display . After a bunch of tries i found a combination that let me hear the tone was being adjusted and that's when I knew that was on the right screen. I'm probably the only one that will ever do this  but just in case I figured I'd post this.
While I am confessing to not reading the owners manual BEFORE I got one more ...I started to pull the tour-pack light because it would not go on. Then decided to let them fix it under warranty. After I put it all back together I thought maybe a little tap tap with some side cutter handle would show something. Well after one or two tap taps it lit up. But it lit up good no flicker etc. Another tap tap and I lost the light. Well I decide to use the finger and push O boy the whole light is the switch and you just push it on or off. And as fate would have it that agree's exactly with what is printed in the book. I got more... maybe another time.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif][smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

LOL, they showed me the correct operation of the tourpak light when I picked the bike up, so I'm covered there, they also warned me about the contrast thing, they'd had somebody else do it already on a Street Glide, so don't feel alone. [smiley=oops.gif]

Guess I'll have to get out the book also, my display went blank yesterday and I don't remember pushing any of the soft keys. If I can't figure it out I'll be getting back with ya. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Well I figured out what went wrong with mine, while doing a clean up after the 1000 mile service they turned off the radio. When I turned it back on the display wasn't on. Well a couple of days ago I turned the radio off and now the display is gone again and the trick that worked last time won't work this time. I'm going to live with it until it gets to cold to ride then I'll have them pull it for repair.

I bet it's the contrast turned down again. You have to guess where the display set-up menu is is and hit the + key a few times to get it back.

I have tried that it worked the first time I lost the display but this time no luck. I can navigate the radio pretty well without the display but thats it. What is really going to torque me off is probably not being able to use the CB inroute to Daytona next week.  Oh yea my heated set isn't working either. Go Figure.

Don't know if this might be problem with heated seat -- but manual says that accessory switch must be ON as well as seat switch. Same for grips.

Thanks KLT I missed that, the grips work without it on but I'll give it a try for the seat.

Checked mine still doesn't work, also checked my owners manual, the section that covers the heated seat doesn't say anything about the accessory switch.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

06 Riders, a request for assistance if someone can without it being a big hassle.  Would someone take a picture of the accessory amp that mounted beneath your tour pak and post it here?  Want to get an idea of its size and mounting method.

Thanks.

It is the same size as the rack that holds up the tour pack. It just fits on the bottom of the rack.
As a guess from looking at it , about 5" long (front of bike to back) and 6" or 7" side to side.

I have the big Harley service book at home and it has good photo of it and how it mounts. I ordered the parts book but it has not gotton to me yet.

I can not post the photo to this as I don't know how to do that but if you give me a fax number I can send it to you in the a.m.
