Stock Pipes
« on: November 01, 2005, 05:44:41 PM »

I am wondering what you all are going to do with your stock pipes.  Are you going to keep them in the garage for the "all original theme"  or are you going to try and get some $$ for them to offset in my case the Rineharts.  I know in the past stock pipes are not worth a darn thing but these being the 4" just wondering. If the 06 bikes came with catalyst mufflers you just about have to hang on to them in case an emissions regime starts requiring you to have all stock emissions systems installed; don't you?  For everyone else we have a lot more latitude.  But you 06 guys may be hosed.

So far I have kept everything that has come off of mine, down to the nuts and bolts. It all boxed up in the loft to put back to original someday. That day will probably never come and i'll end up selling the stuff later but for now, it will all collect some dust.

I really don't think there will much of a market out there for the stock mufflers but who knows. You may want to store them in the event the Fed's makes them mandatory I bet they are pricey to replace.

Thank you all for the info.  I am in SD so I am not seeing anything coming down the pipe for emissions.  That does not mean that I will be here for ever.  Called the dealer today and no word on delivery (planned ship date of Oct 12).  Looking like the 4-6 weeks is going to hold true. :'(

Keep your '06 take off mufflers.  I did just in case I need them later.

I always keep the current exhaust for my scooter I own, then once I sell it they go to the trash can. The 06 Stock Exhaust looks really good but the sound is not something to write home about. Hang in there as your bike will be in SD, before you know it.

JeffJ, we are talking about keeping them because of the cat just in case our states start to sniff and we need to reinstall them.

Defintely recommend keeping them somewhere. I have a set of 'legals' and just gave them a good coat of polish, wrapped them  up, and stored them in the box that one or another set of pipes came in. Much cheaper than having to go back and buy a set later on if needed. If the emissions and decibels police ever get activated, they'll certainly be handy for getting the violation cleared up. At least temporarily  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Yep your right on that  Road_Glider the 06 exhaust are different than previous exhaust.

I live in CA, currently and it has to be one of the toughest states on anything to do with smog and such. I will keep my exhaust in my Freedom/BUB box in garage for as long as I own this bike.
