Gas tank contamination

I have a 2000 FXR4 and have severe gas tank problems.Twice the bike would not start after filling up because of a varnish type crap in my tank.I am having a liner installed now.Has anybody had this problem ? Hopefully this will take care or things because I was told that I cannot get a new tank.Any and all ideas or thoughts will be appriciated.I had to clean the carb out also.

Varnish is usually caused by stale gas.  Was it sitting a long time?  The "new" gas has  very short shelf life, much shorter than gas of several years back.  Always use Sta-bil if not being run for a while (3-6 months).  Make to run it after adding stab il to get it into the carb.
