Quad Recommendations
« on: February 15, 2006, 07:45:31 PM »

With all of the snow and trails around me I've decided to buy a quad.  Not sure which is best, I don't want a racer, a trail rider would be best, maybe with a snow plow attachment.  Just tooling around the Honda dealer on my way home from work I saw 6-8 grand for a something my son could ride along with me on.  Any recommendations.

My family owns property on Big Sebago Lake in Maine. We own and maintian several quads. Honda and Yamaha. The Honda's are 4x4's and useful in what we call "rough sleddin" in Maine. The Yamaha's are 4x2 racers with clutch and shift. They are a lot of fun, but harder to handle because you have to shift as well as drive which can be tough in situations where your concentration is needed just to hang on and steer. So I guess my advice is to determine much the same as you would if you were buying a two wheeled vehicle, what your needs are. What do you want the machine to do. What will be your primary use of it.As your salesmen a ton of questions, there are some out there that will spend the time to help you buy the right machine for you because they see the wisdom in establishing a relationship with a customer. Find the dealer with the salesman who will help YOU find what YOU need.

Thanks, I'm definately thinking of a 4x4 ATV.  The Honda 680 I saw looked like it would be great.  Anyone have one of these.

Thanks Deuce.  I'm zeroing in on a Honda Rincon 680.  It has fuel injection and a car like transmission, plus the Hinda dealer is just down the street from me and I can almost drive it through the back woods to get there [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

They recommended a 1 day ATV course which both myself and my 7 year old boy can attend together.  FB

the only thing I would recommend is looking for a used unit for your son  we had a small Honda for our girls that they outgrew quickly as is the case where most are concerned  a neighbor here in Cal just picked up couple of used Suzuki's for his kids at about 1/2 what a new one cost and they were barely broke in   buy a used one , use it for a couple years and give someone else a deal for their kid  save the bucks for when your son is screamin for a unit like the big boys ride   :D
