I have an 08 CUSE and put on shorter HD rear shocks (actually they made by Showa) when it was new to get a little lower seat height. Ran to WV for a 1000 mile trip with the wife and we bottomed on nearly every bad spot on the roads. I ran my normal 22# air pressure and we don't carry much stuff (our combined weight is 300 lb). We never bottomed like this before, so when I got home, I re-installed the original shocks, put in 20# air then went out and intentionally hit potholes....no bottoming. This stinks....50,000 miles and the lowering shocks are kaput!
Anyone else experience this short shock life?

I would think 50,000 miles on rear shocks would be acceptable.

Heck the low profile shocks at 38psi didn't make it but 1100miles, on my 2010. but i have 40k miles on the set that are on my 03 RKC and there till good,

Not sure what you mean by the shocks are shot after 50K...they suck right out of the box! Mine have bottomed out from the beginning with the wife on the back. Pumped up to 55psi to boot! I'm 215 and the wife is around 120. Bottoms out even without the tourpak.

If you replace them, go with the progressive 940's and be done with it.

They are sold in pairs. Not individually. And you can do better than $700 for a set.

The 940's are GREAT!!! No air to mess with and the bsr says they ride better than stock. You can get them on eBay for $469.

Good to know on the price for the 940s. I put my original standard shocks back on and no more bottoming - had a little trouble getting the air lines to stop leaking but seem to be holding now....wifey and I rode today and hit some nasty bumps, was fine. Originals will probably last me till I trade this CUSE in, unless HD doesn't come up with better paint schemes. This multi color and flames stuff doesn't do anything for me. I think the prettiest bike (except mine!) is one of the reds on the plain old Ultra a couple years back. Nice dark red with metal flake....classy, IMO. I might have to drop back to a Limited and add a $hi!load of chrome and such.

Works performance told me years ago that any factory shocks would be shot at 25 to 30k. They even expect you to service there shocks in that range. JM2C! I think all Harley shocks suck out of the box!

Riding some of the interstates like I-95 that pound the crap out of 'em, I'm surprised that they last that long.

There's always the legions or arnott options. I have the arnott system, there is nothing like the convenience
And the great ride of just pushing a button to soften and smooth out the ride.

Amen brother. Just change 'em as the road conditions change. Gotta love that adjustable air ride.

Interesting, took tha the name on the side of my original and set of lower shocks says Showa on them. So much for American made!

They probably say American Showa only because they are a Japanese company with a factory in Columbus Ohio. Would not swear your shocks were made in the USA.

Unless it's changed recently, both the front and rear suspension is made by Showa for HD. They make some good stuff, just not low bid HD stuff.

I'm a little confused about the 940's. Are the the correct length for a 09 FLTRSE3?

940's are meant to lower the rear end 1 inch. I have also installed 940's and one inch shorter Mono tubes in the fornt end of my 10 SEUC, and love it.

They keep the stock ride height on the FLTRSE3. The shocks are one inch lower stock, but the front suspension is not lower.
