Exec killed
« on: November 17, 2006, 09:34:55 AM »

Those of you in the Atlanta area know this.  A doctor and CEO of Wellstar Health Mgmt Co. (own and operate several hospitals in the area) was killed last week on his HD.  He had purchased it earlier this year at a charity auction.  He came home after work, changed his clothes and told his wife he was going for a "spin around the block".
The paper's initial report read as if was his fault " turned in front of an oncoming car".  However just this morning a young mother was arrested in Marietta and charged with 2nd degree vehicular
homicide....driving in an improper lane.  2 lose (not to mention family members)......sad.

Ride safe

... My wife is a 2+ year breast cancer survivor ... has anyone here ever been involved with, or know much about the Breast Cancer 3-Day walks?

They use motorcycles for Route Safety, and I did it in Atlanta this year. I highly reccomend it to everyone as one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]...

First of all, I am sorry about the loss of a fellow rider.
Second of all - Congratulations to your wife --- Keep up the Fight!
Third of all - Yes I crewed a 3-Day 60 mile walk a few years ago --- actually I guess it was about 6 or 7 years ago, and It was most assuredly one of the most rewarding things I have EVER done. I was a newbie rider at the time, took my 800 Suzuki Intruder all by myself, rode 80 miles from home and we helped the walkers go from Maryland to the mall in DC. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone. You will be so proud of those walkers and they absolutely will fall in love with you. They put their safety in your hands and you will protect them fiercely. And at the closing ceremonies, there is not a dry eye anywhere.

Thanks. She's doing great. Early detection of a small lump was the key.

Not to hyjack your thread but since it was brought up, I have a guy here in my office that was diagnosed with breat cancer earlier this year. It came as a complete shock to all of here, none of us had ever heard men could even get breast cancer. I now understand it is rare but it is not as rare as you would think.
Sure got my attention!

You are so right.  No one should take their health lightly.  Breast cancer may occur in men at any age, but it is usually detected (found) in men between 60 and 70 years of age. Male breast cancer makes up less than 1% of all cases of breast cancer. Radiation exposure, high levels of estrogen, and a family history of breast cancer can increase a man

Yes it was indeed a hyjacking of a thread....but no problem....good cause.  I sponsored a walker this year and watched the departure from NP mall.  Did not know about the motorcycle volunteers.

We actually have one verteran crew member, with 7 or 8 'boob jobs' we call them, who himself is a BC survivor.

Chuck, I just sent an email to M Roberts asking if they had a spot for another volunteer for the 07 Atlanta walk.  Probably not but no harm in asking....maybe they have a waiting list.
thanks

Congrats!!! Melissa is great, however if you tell her I referred you, you might wind up in the PITA folder with me. [smiley=banana.gif]

I understand they don't do actual crew assignments until January, but they do work off of a wait list since some people drop.

Actually, through today, there is a $30 discount ($60 instead of $90) for anyone signing up for Atlanta if you use the promo code of SPIRIT.

My PT said he worked at the walk wrapping ankles and knees and learned more about "therapy" from the walkers than he did in school!

There's tears in my eyes reading this thread

Earlier this year we saw the "Amazon Heart Thunder Ride" (I think that's right) around UK in support of Breast Cancer Awareness

These were half a dozen or so female riders, including Marjorie Ragg of HOG UK, calling at various dealers and rallies during August.

They were escorted all the way by local HOG and independent Harley riders

On the Bank Holiday weekend they set off from Aviemore in the Highlands of Scotland where I was attending the "Thunder in the Glens" Dunedin HOG rally to ride to London (600+miles)

One of the ladies was Jane Walker (no relation) - Membership secretary for our New Forest Branch HOG chapter and a "proper Biker"

The support the "Amazons" received was tremendous and everyone donated as much as they could and generally made the lady riders most welcome at the rally

Jane died a month later of breast cancer - she had made the gruelling trip in the full knowledge it would probably be her last ride - and she did it for others

Respect
