Stabilising ride
« on: June 12, 2014, 08:49:15 AM »

Hi! Please tell your opinion; what shall be modified in 2008 CVO Ultra to get best riding comfort? Bagger Brace stabilizer, but what else on chassis?
For front suspension and rear shocks with air adjustment?
Any price indications also welcome.

You should read this thread about upgrading shocks and front suspension......I still love the ride in my bike.

On my 2008 CVO Ultra I installed the Progressive Monotubes lowering kit(~$350 on Amazon) in the front forks, Suspension Technology's 12 " shocks ($200 used from eBay) in the rear, and a Bagger Brace ($300) in the lower frame. These mods improved the ride greatly over the stock setup I had when I got the bike. I'm on the short side so I realize that lowering the bike has inherent tradeoffs in handling, but these changes certainly have tightened up the ride and have given me greater confidence in its handling.

Great! Thanks for advice. What indeed this Bagger Brace ($300) in the lower frame consists of?
Otherwise, since Im quite tall, will stay on stock dimensions. Will definately go for upgrade.
Do you ride mostly as single?

I ride more solo than 2 up. Here's a link to info on the bagger brace.

Looks like a nice piece. I had the tru-track installed on my '99 FLHRCI by the designer and his techs at Sturgis in '06. It definitely made a difference, but unlike the Bagger brace, it is visible from the outside and I have dragged it thru turns. The "battle scars" are kinda like a lack of tire chicken strips..a badge of honor, LOL!

Personally, my suspension upgrades begins and ends with OHLINS! Extremely pricy, but you get what you pay for. Not all of us ride the same, nor appreciate the differences in suspension the same way, so spend as per your own taste and budget. Cheers.

I've tried a lot of different shocks, and would recommend either Ohlins or JRI to anyone.  Unless you want to spend big bucks on either Traxxion or Ohlins front cartridges, I'd stick with Ricor Intiminators in the forks.  I have nothing positive to say about Progressive products, especially not the Monotubes.

Can you explain further on the hatred for the progressive stuff?

Glide pro bushings and swing arm axle. Works great. I have one.

I would say go for the progressive link, new bearing style bushings in the rear swing arm, Progressive mono's that work fine,  and the new 970 series shocks.

Anybody have an opinion on glide pro "composite" swing arm bushings and S/S axle kit versus True-Track's "bearing bronze" version?

'Have the GlidePro in the '05 SEEG ("old" frame) & the '09 SERG ("new" frame) I would install the GlidePro (in either bike) again in a heartbeat!!!

'Have the H-D Premium suspension (f&r) in the '09 and I am very happy all the way around with the Harley stuff.

I just did my full premium Ohlins front and rear suspension, but I forgot about the craptastic silicone/rubber "cleveblocks" and frt lower motor mount...despite having already changed both utilizing OEM parts. Apparently, glide pro's items result in less motor vibration and better handling. I also apparently have the "old" (original) true-track which is now listed as being for "casual, less-aggressive riders who don't scrape boards often". I'll have to investigate as to just what exactly is suitable for maniac, corner-carving board-dragging "pro" riders, like myself.

I know True-track will try to sell me their "bearing bronze" rear axle bushings. I don't doubt the handling will be improved as solid metal bushings are much firmer than the OEM cleveblocks, I'm also sure they do nothing for the existing damping/isolation from the engine and may add additional harshness.
