Oh wait....one more.  This one is near and dear to me.  Down at the Sacramento River....gave my daughter her first ride.  Just around the parking lot a couple of times but she loved it.  This little girl is now....well, we'll just say she's in her 30s.

Hey JC,

I see your knack of creative photography has been with you a long time.

As always, good job and thanks for sharing.

BTW, good to see that you will be back in your own saddle soon.

Beautiful new ride, and I wish you a wonderful Christmas time ride.

Take care & ride safe.

Where's Lou (grandpadoc)?  I know he has a chopper back in the day.  He should be posting up here.

Not exactly choppers and I still can't remember the exact year but I can tell you what decade. ;)  I bought the 86 Heritage in 87 and totaled it a couple of years.  Fortunately for me, that guy that pulled out of a donut shop driveway and drove into the side of my stock Heritage had good insurance.

It took me a few months to decide.....yep, strip it down, build the motor....an S&S Sidewinder kit, bars to the stars, low profile p-pad and a Supertrapp 2 into 1.  While I was trying to figure it all out, I bought an 89 Sporster just to get me through the down time.  The shop I'd bought it from had just finished putting the big tank, bobbed rear fender, forward pegs and brake, etc.  It was black and silver but I'd already had one that color, so I had my painter paint it Hot Red and Bright White and then had it pin stripped by Mike Cline (he did my show bike above).  The Sportster got so much attention in those colors that when I finally got the Heritage back up, I had my painter paint it exactly the same.  Some thought it was a "his & hers" even though I was single at the time.  Eventually, several ladies rode that Sportster over the next few years.  Both of these bikes were in the harley hardback book called Rebels With A Cause by Gail DeMarco and in the movie Rescue Me with Michael Dudikoff and Amy Dolenz (Micky Dolenz of the Monkees' daughter).

You betcha!  Bikes & Babes - That's the JC we've all come to love!

JC, Sorry we missed you the last time in CA, but I will definitely let you know when we plan our next trip in that part of the country.

Ouray, eh?  (Just had to throw a little CND in there for ya.)  Hmmmm, something to think about for sure and will let you know if we'll be there.

All the best.

Most folks want "That Look", but can't take the pounding and hammering that comes with it. So they leave it in their garage and take ElectraGlide out instead.

Kudos to JC, Doc and everyone else who really did it!

Hey Grandpadoc,
That is a great looking bike with some family history and they are a great looking couple. I do however hope there was a prenuptial agreement prior to the I do's. Would hate to see that classic leave the family.  :)

Love the old (well, really not THAT old) pics from JC and gpd.  Funny how we look back and see those bike and wonder why we ever sold them.  Glad you still have your old sporty in the family, gpd....whether you can get 'er back or not.

Keep 'em coming.  I've got one of me and my dad on his '72 EG but don't have a clue where it is.  I'll do a quick search at the house tonight.

Wish I had some of my pix from the 70's...but experiencing two (2) divorces things tend to get lost. If anyone on this site ever hears me saying I am getting married a third time please kick me in the nutz till I come to my senses.
I do enjoy the pictures though.

Not exactly bell bottoms or a chopper but it was the 70's and my first bike,  3rd grade.   The beginning of the ruination. :2vrolijk_21:

My daughter and I on my first chopper back in the '70's
It's not a Harley but it had some Harley parts.

Hey Knothead,
Great picture...beverage and all. Looks a little like my second bike...a brown 1973 Honda CB-750 that I bought new. Added pullback handle bars, six inch front end extension, custom exhaust where the two center pipes crossed, sissy bar, highway pegs with forward controls that operated from the highway pegs or from the standard position and dual up and down head lamps. And the thing would run. I could sometimes catch a little air beneath the front tire shifting from second to third. Pulling the front end a little off the ground in first or into second was easy. Damn I loved that bike!!!
Thanks for the memories.

I loved it back in the 70s!  I have to see if I have any pictures as well. Like some others, divorces have taken a toll on pictures!  The memories are still clear! I went to Daytona every year and rode all across the southeast from NC to Key West and several states to the west. Had some great times with great people! Everything was great including bikes, cars and girls (all were fast and beautiful and a joy just to look at much less ride!)  ;D

What a wonderful picture!  A real keepsake for sure.

It appears that you are nice, relaxed and very cool handling yourself quite comfortably (building a false sense of security in your competitor's mind) during a slow race...

BTW, who won?

You're right!  It was a slow race!  Don't remember who won.  Probably not me with that foot clutch!  But  I do have a trophy from back then but don't remember what I did to get it.  Part of getting older I guess.  :D

Here is my Triumph in 1969, paint is candy root beer with snake skin pattern on top of tank. Bike was painted by a great painter Don Boecke (the Egyptian) in Dayton, Ohio. If I remember right Don charged me right at $1,800.00 for paint and metal work. That was a ton of cash back the. Will try to find picture of top.  Not a Harley but then again who really cared.  Yes that is my 1967 corvette 427, 425 HP 4 speed.  All that and made around $2.00 per hour.  We worked 14 hours a day 7 days a week back then.  Did that for 3 years straight. Serving an apprenticeship making parts to feed the war machine for Vietnam. Oh, I forgot we weren't at war.

Well I couldn't afford one of them Harleys back then so this was my 1st touring bike.  Bought it in 1966 when I moved to NorCal, If this old memory serves me properly it was a 1963,
305 Honda Dream, I put over 60k miles on that bike in 2 years, it was my only transportation, the wife drove the only car.

The picture is not of mine.  All my pictures from the 60's through the 80's were destroyed by an ExWife.  Actually she is known as "My F*^n Ex Wife...  However the Dream in the picture belonged to Elvis and was on display at Motorcycle de Elegance in Half Moon bay some years ago so I regained a picture of the exact bike.

Not at bellbottom time but one hell of a faded memory.  My 1984 Shovel. My neighbor found it sitting in a back room at a Honda dealer wasting away, told me and I bought it.  Brought her home took it apart and rebuilt to what you see.  In 1997 I decide to sell it and my son begged me to let him have it.  He wanted something his dad had built.  I signed it over to him, within two weeks he repainted it god awful red and then traded it for a big block Camaro.  I guess old dad wore off pretty fast.

Wow, that looks a lot like my first street bike. Mine was a black/chrome 1965 Honda Dream, not the 305 but, if memory serves me correctly, it was a 160 twin. Rumor has it that the bike has been in a local barn with a blown motor since 1984. I may have to check into that. Would be kinda neat to find it and do restoration.......

Hey JC,

This is a little off topic, but the subject you've chosen for this topic sounds like a good movie starring Jack Lemon and Lee Remick.   :P

Sturgis later 70's, parking was as much of an issue. I am second from left, you really can not see it but the first bike on the left is Knuckle. We did a bit of wrenching on that trip!

I look at this picture and can feel the God awful hangover I had at the time. We had just returned from a "Horse Roast" club party. My brand new 78 Low Rider was about two months old in this picture, the AMF years. What a POS this picture was in July next trip was Sturgis at about 1400 miles one way and I broke down with a bad valve on the way there, on the way home lost both the front and rear brakes, front fork seal and another valve! I tore it down and took everything off of it to the last nut and bolt, complete redo so I was able to ride with out breaking down. I often think of this bike before the rebuild when I read about all the "problems" with our CVO's. Pretty damn good bikes compared those AMF POS!

still on the 2006 with the DFT trike kit on the back, last I looked it was at 35,000 miles and have done nothing but change oil and on trip out west two years ago lost the charging system, would only run about 1 hour on battery and was 225 miles from a dealer that I called from the road on cell phone for him to UPS NDA the parts. so to keep it running to get their I bought 2 car battery at parts store as I went. like the old days....running a total loss system!

this is a good subject you started, love to see all the "old" photos and the owners when we were kids!

Yep had a new 78 low rider myself. Knew it was going to be a problem when on the way home from the dealer the right front turn signal fell off the bike hanging on by the wires. Real POS

That's cool I always wanted one of those. Did it fire every lamp post? Was it easy to start?

It wasn't bad on start ups a bit tempermental depending on damp or dry weather conditions but I got the hang of setting the manual mag/point setting advance lever control be for kicking it over. The miss fires/kick back like the HD kickers would try to throw you off the bike as you may well know, and yes she was some what of a lamp post thumpper. Sure do wish I still had her today.

Bumping this, there has to be some new members that can contribute or other members that just missed it before. JC had a great idea here, would enjoy seeing some more of the throw backs.

Certainly not a chopper or bellbottoms but this was my 86 Heritage and I believe this was taken around 1987 or 1988.

No extras on the 68 sportster:

No battery, no turn signals, kick start, magneto, retard the spark, kick it thru two times slowly, half choke, kick it, it might start, but normally the 2nd real kick it did, advance the spark (left grip) and go.

Two buttons on the handlebars, Horn and the kill switch.

Straight pipes, great sound, still looking for that rumble. :)
