Speculation on an '06 SEEG
« on: October 16, 2004, 03:42:01 PM »

Wow, there's already some talk going on in a few threads about the '06 models and the '05's just came out!

based on history i would say no. but then they broke convention this year by making 3 different CVO bikes and also broke convention by making 3 colors for each model. so i think i have learned not to jump to any conclusions

Yeah, but maybe they were just trying to make up for '03 (one color only)!

One  would think 06 would be a new model how about a deluxe? or a heritage? also have heard rumor that a sportster could be possible. That was mention in an interview with the guy that run the CVO division.

I understand the history of two year production cycles for CVO MODELS, but keep in mind the the underlying reason for doing custom or semi custom bikes is to test that the MOCO can do it profitably. Presumably then, the logical intent would be to sort out production problems and expand the model offerings. After all, I think they might just be making some money on these things. I don't think there will be a SEEG next year but I wouldn't rule out three (or More) models.

As an aside, how about the affiliation of some Harley dealers with Thunder Mountain Choppers. These are custom bikes which use an all Harlet 103 motor and stock drivetrain.

About this time last year, I posted that there would be an FLHTCSE2.  I knew that as fact, not speculation, but couldn't give up my source.  This year, I don't know and could only guess, but I think PCC raised some good points just above and for that reason, I'd not be surprised to see a third year of this fine motorcycle.

That's an Ultra Classic SE for anyone that does not know.

Do you think there will be an '06 or will H-D stop production of the CVO Electra Glide after this model year?

Of course this is only speculation but I think that there will be because of these commercial reasons;

1. HD MOCO will know about this site and take it as a barometer of consumer support for the model. (Respect to Naitram & helpers)

2. Being the most expensive it; raises average unit sale value, increases turnover and is probably the most profitable.

3. Satisfies the niche of the well-healed sector of the market.

4. Is serving a market segment that is likely to spend above average on HD extras

5. The touring model type lends itself well to extras sales.

6. Only minor changes such as new colour ways will stimulate the collector market to still buy annually.

7. The model has a loyal following of people who will change annual for minor changes such as colour.

8. As the flagship model the Electra Glide is a must for further up specking and a higher price point.

Dare I say it,
a CVO Girlster would be strictly for the ladies. [smiley=lipsrsealed2.gif]

I will be back with some more rationale soon.

9. As the model with the most paint-able surface area it gives synergy to one of CVO

Well, here's one more:

12. The Electra Glide is the perfect platform for introducing a Screamin' Eagle 6-speed transmission that is compatible with a hydraulic clutch

But, speaking to your "Girlster" comment, I think the the three models wearing CVO badges next year will be:

Sportster ("replacing" the Electra Glide)
- great way to keep the new re-design fresh in everyone's mind, a la V-Rod
- haven't done a CVO in this family yet
- lower entry-level price point to get into a CVO (the opposite of your #3 above)
- any number of points related to new/returning/female riders

Fat Boy (year #2)

V-Rod (year #2)

Don't forget that the guy in charge of the CVO program made that same comment about the sporster in an interview.

Nice idea 103, six speed sounds good.

Not that I have ever been one to shy away from taking a contrary position, or that I am a gambling man but I would love $100 even odds that there is no CVO Sportster in 2006 model line-up.

I agree that the V Rod is likely to remain albeit that Moco could be a ltlle more radical with this model. Fat tyre or even the previously suggested chopper CVO would be good.

I have seen crystal balls advertised but don't know if they work.

13. The Electra Glide is the only model with a sidecar option and therefore the most likely one for a big inch engine to stimulate sidecar sales.

14. Most riders who tow buy baggers and are most likely to want extra inches. (I tow a trailer tent see: http://www.microgem.co.uk/pages/tent.htm )Come on guys, help me here whilst I think of some more.

Tony, do you know the price on one of those Microgem trailers?  Looks like a pretty nifty setup.
