I think LabRat's brother hit a sweet spot, but for the most part my sentiments are the same as most of the others.

I guess th biggest drawback to buying a store is truly the time you need to dedicate to the project and to building it up.

In my current business I have people wondering all the time why we are as successful as we are.  As stated above its a lot of hard work to build a team that will deliver a great experience to our clients.  I don't want to be tied to a work in progress in this economy and with the current state of affairs at HD.

On the other hand I am moving forward with another project I can tell you more about in the coming weeks.  Kind of like sticking to what you know and not thinking you can make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Thanks for the comments and I'd appreciate anyone else's view as well.

Rog, from a tangent to the main question.  You've got business to run or to allow to be run now.  No matter how good the staff that still occupies time.

That being so any decision on any new operation has to be a two-fer.  You have to have both the purchase opportunity available and a perfect guy to make your #1 there.  Without having him/her in place before the fact do you dare bite the bullet?

So what; we're both gonna stop what we're doing and go run Roger's new bike shop?  At least one of us isn't used to being snowed in all winter.

Follow my thinking here Roger.

Jenni for internet sales.

dOOd (the unflaming one) for chrome and custom design sales and installation.

GRC for Parts manager.

Naitram for internet services and bike testing.

hd-dude for percentage partner and general manager over all operations.

Spiderman for sales manager.

lilbear's Martha for motorclothes manager.

Me, for chithead customer to keep everyone on their toes.

Don for marketing director and dealership activities.

MikeR in charge of classic restorations.

How am I doing so far?

 :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Trying to resolve service manager position.

Any suggestions?

Don, I think that's my concern.

I would be the third wheel in a deal currently and I don't think it makes sense that way for sure.

There are other "real" issues as well, mainly the new HD allocation turn and earn, that could be made to work in a good operators favor, but currently the allocation is so small it would be difficult.

I already have a volume based operation that is difficult to make work under good circumstances and I don't think the HD model of volume will work long term.

That may be there plan to drove off small dealers, but having been there myself, it is a poor excuse for a customer driven system.  It makes the bad things we all bitch about dealers for more prevalent and the customer service side drops off in small markets as they can't afford it with small volume and small gross that comes with turn and earn.

Turn and earn pits dealer against dealer, not the way to make a strong environment.

I like the Spiderman thought but Jim needs more than just service.
He gets bored easily.
I can't imagine ANYONE more suited for general manager and partner than Jim.
