Looking for good tires for a Electra Glide CVO 2007
« on: July 08, 2023, 01:58:54 PM »

Hi guy's,

As mentioned in the 'new members topic', after many years of sitting and gathering dust, I am able to start riding again.
One of the things I have to do, is changing my tires.
Always been driving the Dunlops, there was no other solution that was adequate. Even if the results in wet conditions were not good, it was better than the other tires available for a bike this heavy.

I knew that Michelin had a replacement tire, the Commander, but there were 'some issues' with.... A friend drove them for 200km and trow them away...  >:(
As I was searching for information, I learned that Michelin has improved the Commander, the III generation, but I can't find any recent comments.
The 'youngest' comments I found, where from 2021...

Today we are 2023... and I presume that during those few years, there might been new experiences...
So, my question...
Are the Michelin Commander III Touring any good?
Who is driving them? What are your experiences?
Good or bad, every input is welcome!

Thanks!

Enjoy the ride, and keep it safe! :2vrolijk_21:

Not sure which size front tire you have but Michelin Commander III had issues with the 17” and 19”(vibration and a high pitch hum due to the casts not lining up perfectly but I believe they have corrected the issue).  I have 18” on the front and 16” on the rear and have zero complaints.  They are extremely smooth and grip well. I only have about 3,000 miles on the front and 1,600 on the rear.  Lots of folks here run the Dunlop American Elites and by all accounts they are good tires with a loyal fan base.

I purchased a set of Commander 3's last year and installed them about 2 months ago, I ended up with a bad vibration when riding straight, it would go away when cornering, the rear tire was ok, the problem was the front, I forget what the date code was for the bad ones, had a tough time getting Michelin to replace it, but got it taken care of, you should be good if purchasing them now, problem solve with the new front tire, attached is the service bulletin from Michelin that pertained to the problem I had.
