Hmmm...I am not sure but maybe the reason it never caught on was because of its limitations...like no steering? I guess it was ok if you just wanted to go straight though.

What has me wondering more is where does the top of the belt run?

This side shot shows belt track.  What a ride. Not sure how you get it around a corner, looks like a straight line or wherever it wants to go..
