Don,
My girls had a Honda ATV that was just like the one you've bought your niece here sans the pink camo paint job. They loved it and they beat the snot out of it, put it away wet and it never missed a beat in all the years we had it on the estate on Sebago. Being a Honda, I refused to do any maintenance on it whatsoever, so it never even got so much as an oil change. Funny thing though, both girls learned to ride it and graduated to bigger Honda 350 4-Trax as well as my Mom (yes my Mom's) Suzuki Warrior. Neither one ever wanted a motorcycle. If they mention those days, it's that they miss riding the ATV with Grammie. I guess that's what it was for them ;something to do with their grandmother; and nothing more. Anyway, I think it's cool beans and you're up for Uncle of The Year in my book  :2vrolijk_21:

B B

Thank you Brian.  I think she'll like it a lot.  She's worn out two of those electric Harley trike things.  Wore the motors out of both of them.  So I'm hoping this floats her boat as much or more.

Already got the speed control turned down so it's just a bit above a walking speed to start with.  Let her get used to that and then kick it up a bit more.  If she does get as much use out of it as I think she will I'll end up getting a larger unit I've already looked at so her dad and I can ride along with her.  Can always chase her on the riding lawn mower.  But this thing is a heluva lot more fun.

Not much in the way of mods for it Joe.  It was a big hit though.  The throttle limiter is turned down to about twice a walking pace.  With her small weight on it after the machine has a bit to wind up that still is a decent clip for her.

She laughed and giggled and screamed throughout her first ride.  She also surprised me.  The starter is on an interlock.  Circuit requires holding in the front break before engaging the starter switch after you've turned on the key.  I thought I'd not need to be concerned about her being able to wander out in the shop and start it on her own because of that.

She watched me do it perhaps twice.  Then next thing I knew she was starting it on her own without issue.  Cold starts with the choke would still be an issue.  But once it's warmed up she's doing it all.

At the point these pictures were taken the limiter was set at just above a walking pace.  For the kid not five years old for another six weeks this seemed fine.  It didn't quite have enough torque to pull away from a stop with the wheel turned or on rougher ground.  So had to allow it that extra bit of throttle.  With it faster she'll use the helmet.  At this point when I could walk along beside I wasn't worrying about it for this "first lesson."

When the throttle was turned up just a bit more the game quickly became chase Uncle Donnie :huepfenlol2: .  This was at first sight last night.

This is great she's just like her Uncle "G" she knows how to color coordinate her outfits to her scooter already. :huepfenlol2:

Don,

Cool pics of your niece and her new wheels.  I have a 4 year old granddaughter and my wife and I have already been talking about a little 4-wheeler for her next Christmas.  I think the smiles on your niece's face will help us with that decision ;)

Don,

Cool pics of your niece and her new wheels.  I have a 4 year old granddaughter and my wife and I have already been talking about a little 4-wheeler for her next Christmas.  I think the smiles on your niece's face will help us with that decision ;)

In the excitement of seeing this and getting it of course she's forgotten about it now.  But as we've wandered in and out of bike shops and she's sat on different toys in the stores the last couple of years she always said she "wanted" a bike more than an ATV.  She gets such a kick of riding on mine that a bike was what she thought about.

The little bitty bikes can be had with training wheels.  I just couldn't start there.  Was more comfortable with this.  Take a little time to get used to coordinating hands and feet in all kinds of situations before adding balance to the mix.  As quickly as she's taking to using hand and feet together my decision might have unnecessary.  But I'm still satisfied with the choice.  This thing is going to be a lot of fun.  Barring its unrepairable destruction in use it should be a toy that is good for many years too.

More than you know Gary.  She'd come to find that Santa had delivered presents from the evening kid's service at their church.  So was dressed in a nice black frilly dress.  It had stayed on until she opened a set of Hannah Montana pajamas (and damn, that's what I wanted).

Then when she opened the picture of the ATV and had to rush out to the shop to see it she screamed "I need pink clothes to go outside and sit on my ATV!"  So everything had to stop for a sudden wardrobe adjustment :2vrolijk_21: .

She's a pretty litte girly girl with the soul of a biker.

Lord help the little boys her age  ;)

At least so far you're spot on Brian.  She's got the feeling and enjoys playing.  She even likes the solitary time that is much a part of how we feel.  The next several years are going to be a lot of fun to watch.
