Bought an Indian Chieftain
« on: June 27, 2019, 07:57:32 AM »

Well folks I just could not justify a new CVO and I just could not get past the worry of potential sumping or fluid migration issues. I know this Indian will not be completely trouble free either, but I decided to give them a try. Here are some pictures:

Very nice...well done.

That 116 kit is da bomb, ain't it?

I noticed you upgraded to the touring seat (heated?).  How does that compare to the stock one it came with?

Love that red, by the way.  It pops in the sunshine... :2vrolijk_21:

I've had an Indian Roadmaster since 2016.  Like most manufacturers, it seems electronics cause most of the complaints, based on forum posts.  The powerplant and tranny will be bullet proof.  Positives: Easy to change oil and service yourself, smooth ride, good handling and suspension, good power (especially with the 116), adjustable windshield, Ride Command spins up fast, and the bike has a low center of gravity - which makes it seem lighter.  Negatives: Adjusting the drive belt can be tedious, seat gives me hot spots, and engine heat can be a bear unless cat removed and/or fuel map changed (however, on the newer models that's been addressed, just not sure how well).  I got an Airhawk cushion and that fixed my seat problem.

Nice looking bike - enjoy.

I am loving the 116 so far but have been easy on it so far for the break in period. I have left the ride mode in standard so far. Can’t wait to get her broke in and go to the sport ride mode. Yes the touring seat is heated for the rider and passenger. The stock seat seemed fairly comfy but is not heated and I am spoiled since I had the heated seat on the Harley. I have not made a long enough trip yet to really evaluate the comfy factor of either seat yet. I also still have the stock seat. I also upgraded the grips to heated ones. One thing about owning a CVO it will spoil you to the nicer accessories. I have about 2 pages of them on that Chieftain. LOL
