Title: Wondering about engine modifications

I am the owner of a 2011 Convertible (110 motor)
I have owned several Harleys over the years as well as 3 Corvettes
I enjoy driving, riding and sometimes speeding. I have had the Corvettes well over 115 miles an hour at times.
Here is my question......
what is the actual gain in modifying the 110?
Top Speed?
faster acceleration?

My bike has only 1000 miles on it as of now and I have ridden it hard at times and really do not see the need to make it any faster or quicker off the line, unless I was racing it at the track.

As it is now, stock except for Fullsac mufflers, it's fast enough to scare the hell out of me.

I have the same bike, I changed pipes to V&H big radius, added dobeck EJT tuner.  better mileage, cooler engine.  I have thought of changing cams, but I am having trouble justifying it especially when I take all the accessories off.

I have one too...  V&H propipe, headwork and mild HD cams give improved low end TQ with flat curve that pulls through 5000 rpm...

Intersting, so far we all ride the same bike.

Sjr, you know the decisions about mods are highly personal and my opinions are just that, my OPINIONS.  I have been riding all my life as well and grew up on much smaller engines (harley and metrics) and I just don't see the need for major mods on the 110.  As you said, it is more than enough power for my needs.  Like many here I changed the intake, exhaust and ignition controller, but my goal was a cooler running engine, that 110 is hot!  Especially summertime in Texas.  I will probably put an oil cooler on before next summer but no mechanical mods to the 110. IMHO.

My 2010 will go much faster than:   (1) Any posted speed limit.    (2)  What I am willing to risk.    (3)  What I am willing to tell my wife.     (4)  the minimum for a trip to jail if caught.   (5) the speed someone my age should "know better"  (6) the speed needed to blow me off if I let go to adjust the tunes.  (7)  well you get the idea!!

Plus it has enough TQ that I have peeled off 2 back tires already and I don't try.  ;D

Highly agree that 110 is a HOT motor.   I put on a HD oil cooler and tuner without any major differences.  I have 4 friends with 110's on varying bikes, (Street Glides, softail, Ultra) with different mods.  We often compare on rides and all have oil temps within 3 or 4 degrees in all temperature ranges, all HOT!!!!!!

forgot to mention, the only other mod on my list is an oil cooler.  I am looking at the oil bud as it is hidden and doesn't detract from the lines of the bike.

I don't think they have an oil bud for our softails???

Based on what (I think) your saying, I think you answered your own question. You have stated that the bike is fast enough to scare you already so other than just trying to reduce some of the heat and make it run a little smoother I'm thinking your all set. White nuckle riding is no fun and if you think it's fast enough already why bother.

You can improve the low end, you can improve the top end or you can improve both... it all depends on which you prefer, what combination of parts and work you choose and $$how much you want to spend.

For me, I want it all, lol.... hook your foot under the brake pedal to help hold you on and get it done!!

 :2vrolijk_21: Agree with everyone. The B-motor has plenty of Torque, and will top out over 120 by the GPS.

Bassani RR long Nightrider XiED - never seen the oil temp over 250 using Syn3 still. 10,750 miles

I have V&H Pro pipe on it.  It screams now and I can pull a wheelie shifting into second without trying too hard.  I do like it a lot better than the stock 110. It also runs cool.  I have a Harley oil cooler on the down tubes.

When I say kit, it's a lot more involved.  I got the Big Bore Kit from Revolution Performance.  It's a 4.25" bore jugs and pistons.  You then have to have your cases bored for the jugs to fit.  They bored the cases, trued the fly wheels, put in a left Timken bearing and balanced the rotating assembly.  I had them cc and port and polish the heads as well as larger intake valves. I bought a T-Man 662-2 gear drive cam. I purchased an HP Inc. 58mm throttle body.  I have a ThundeMax Auto Tune to handle the ECM. Exhaust is a V&H Pro pipe 2 into 1.  I have not Dyno tuned it yet.  I plan on doing that in the spring.

To Do:  Dyno tune
            Different clutch setup (probably Barnett)     
            Forward Controls

I have a V&H Propipe and the Pro Performance Kit installed.  I did not have the bike Dynod, I was waiting to put on a Thunder Max but I was told it's still in R&D phase.  I do not think I needed the Pro kit but after haveing a Road Star Warrior I beg for that power.  I do not have it with this bike.
