$53,3XX for a 2016 CVO Street Glide?
« on: February 06, 2016, 03:08:33 PM »

Just saw that Central TX HD in Round Rock TX (Austin) is adding $15,000 to MSRP.  They have a Black,a White, and a Blue on the floor, MSRP just over $36k, about $1500 in frt and prep, and a bottom line of $53,3xx something.

Oh
My
God.

The guy said they will get it.  Today is Saturday, 6 Feb, a bit breezy and about 58 degrees.  Band playing in the parking lot, free food.

I'm keeping my 2012 FLHXSE3.

They say everything is bigger in Texas so the price sounds about right. Now I can see some big Texas rancher bragging about his new CVO and how much he spent on it.  ::)

Does the hang tag on the bike have a line that says additional dealer markup (AKA sucker fee)?

F---ing greed. When I called around for my '15 some of the dealers were asking 4k over msrp. They got hung up on. I found mine for 35,400. In a way I hope the dealer chokes on the bike. The other half of me hopes it sells for that much...It only helps the value of our bikes, but is going to hurt us the next time we buy a new one. Double edged sword there. I guess if you have bottomless pockets and thats the bike you have to own, and you don't want to do any research...enjoy.

That's nuts! In early December we picked up out Black 16 CVOSG- we got $5k OFF sticker, matching backrest for the wife and 4-point Docking hardware- THROWN IN!
Of course we added another $7k in goodies.

You don't really think this would cause you to be able to get a higher amount for your bike either through a private sale or a trade do you?  The same greed that causes a dealer to ask a premium over MSRP will cause them to low-ball your trade.  Likewise, one idiot dealer getting together with one idiot buyer will not sway the overall used market.

I think somebody transposed some numbers.

I was thinking about this.  the dealer 'accidentally' transposes 35 to make it 53, you see it and immediately go into panic mode, then the dealer says, 'oops, sorry, dyslexic moment' and changes it to back to 35.  you've already seen the 53, so your mind now thinks, 'wow, what a bargain' instead of '35k for a motorcycle!?  are you crazy?'....

I wish I would have taken my phone in to photo the hang tag.

It did not say ADM, but it clearly listed the MSRP, FRT, Prep and final "sale" price.  I've posted photos of hang tags from this dealer before.

For all I know, someone walks in with MSRP cash in hand they may get it for that less TT&L even.  I don't want one of the new ones, but thought it funny, $53k.

They added a full page of parts.  I have seen it on the floor for over 2 months.  It really does have a bucket list of parts that the parts manager called out personally.  Cost is outrageous but is more custom than a CVO.  You really need to see the thing before you bash the cost.

It's not hard to get to that $ if the dealer did the options. I was around $50k before I left the dealership. That's just a lot of blind faith for a dealer to add the gear themselves.  :-\

Vegas Harley marked up their CVO's at least $3k over MSRP.  On the tag it said "Price Adjustment".  Not sure about non-CVO's if they were marked up over MSRP or not.  But "price adjustment" is a very blatant example of price gouging.

Three points:
1. That's f-ing crazy!
2. If the commodity is readily available on the market, ASKing and even getting a crazy price is NOT gouging! Foolish, risky, but not gouging. The idiot buyer could have just shopped around and voted with their feet.
3. At least that dealer has hang tags. My local changed owners and the new guy posts no prices and every inquiry is met with the " well come in and have seat....." song and then begins the "dance"

And they sell bikes every day...

And no, there are no dealer-add-ons.

I only posted this to show how some dealers are.

Just saw that Central TX HD in Round Rock TX (Austin) is adding $15,000 to MSRP.  They have a Black,a White, and a Blue on the floor, MSRP just over $36k, about $1500 in frt and prep, and a bottom line of $53,3xx something.

I think it could be like You wrote: 35,xxx plus 1,500 for additional costs and sell list price making the potential buyer THINK he's going to have a good price with respect to the "dyslexic" 53,xxx on the bike tag.
