Yep, I can relate to the hands on instruction... nothing like (real thing)! Since Aug 08...we now have, just approaching 8K on the scooter. Does this course count towards insurance discounts? Thanks Muddy

I don't know if you'll get an insurance discount, you'll have to check with your insurance company on that.   But more importantly, you'll improve your skill level.

I'm interested, but June 27, 28 is the only date I could make.

Assuming that I can sign up for just one day, and not both weekend days, I can do 6/28, 7/5, or 7/25 OR 7/26 (but not both).

As most of you know, we've been trying to get RIDE LIKE A PRO WEST COAST (RLAPWC) to come to Nor Cal for quite awhile.  I think I first wrote to Mark about this two years ago.  Andy has been supporting this all along.  After we rode to So Cal a few weeks ago, a number of members voiced an interest and we've finally talked Mark into trying this.

Andy has secured a location to hold the training....we need to do the rest.  If you're interested in RLAPWC now is the time to let it be known.....we want to bring it to you here in Nor Cal.

Cost: $160 each.  Training bikes $150 each (limited to four bikes each class)

We're looking to fill two classes a day for two days of 6-7 riders each class.

We have an option of several dates however, we need to make this decision quickly, in order to secure the location (if you're interested in attending, please let us know what date works best for you and we'll go with the majority if that works for Mark and the location owner):

June 27   Hotbird, SGChick (rental), Rooster (Rental), Sklywag

June 28   Sanjoseduke, Sklywag

If you're interested and serious about this please just post here and you'll be contacted.  We can tell you that the training is valuable for new riders or those with years of experience and.........we had a great time doing it together. :2vrolijk_21:

A link to our recent trip to LA to attend this training:   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=35634.60

A link to Mark's web site to learn exactly what Ride Like A Pro is all about......or just ask one of us that have taken it:  http://www.ridelikeaprowestcoast.com/

I would tell you that it's all about learning how to ride at slow speeds, very tight maneuvers in a controlled position.  Making u-turns at slow speed with forks turned all the way to the fork stops, figure eights at slow speed with forks turned all the way to the fork stops, u-turn from a dead stop with forks turned all the way......no rolling start.....from a dead stop.  Try it.....after you pick your bike up, sign up for this training.  By the way, Mark will also show even the smallest rider how to pick their bike up by their self, from either side. :2vrolijk_21:

The first post of this thread will show who has signed up and for what date.  Since the first six responses were all for the same weekend, I've removed all the other option dates.  The training is a half day session that is offered four times on one weekend only.

You may invite friends and even post on other forums if you'd like.  If we don't get enough people to attend it will not happen, so it's up to all of you. :2vrolijk_21:

I wish it was the Saturday before the Pacific Northwest GTG, I'd fly in and take it again!

For those of you interested in the RLAP course, I cannot tell you how glad I am that I took this class in LA.  The class itself is great, but the best part of the RLAP-West Coast is the rental bike.  No worries about scratching paint or chrome!!  After a few laps, you stop worrying about who is watching and you really start pushing yourself past your comfort zone because you have no fear of dropping the bike.  Learning to dip the bike as you start to make a U-turn or go into a curve (or make a circle) really makes handling the bike in tight spots so much easier!!  The class really helped me with one bad habit...grabbing too much front brake!  I really didn't want to do the braking exercise!  I told Jonga and ErnieZap that I was dreading it before we started it.  I kept remembering my wonderful experience going downhill in thick gravel, panicking, and grabbing the brake!  I didn't want to embarrass myself again.  Terrie and the guys were great and very encouraging so I toughed it out.  Good thing I did because last weekend, that exercise probably saved my life when a car pulled out in front of me and then suddenly came to a dead stop to turn left (cause they saw they missed a yard sale).  The braking exercise and repetitiveness of learning to dip the bike kept me from rear-ending a car!  The class is great!!!  I'd love to take it again now that I've had some time to practice and put my skills to use!  And BTW, I can't wait to post some pics from the local Hooter's Bike Night this past Thursday night as soon as they get them posted.  After telling several people about the class and trying to explain "the iron cross" and how you turn from full lock to full lock, I decided to demonstrate it ON THE VROD in the parking lot.  I couldn't quite convince the guy on an American Ironhorse chopper to try it, but several others were interested in taking the class.

JC

I have to back out.  I found out Friday that I have to be out of town on business from Wed thru Sat, getting home Sunday mid day.  Sorry, I have wanted to do this.

 :-\

If someone has already asked this question,  Pls advise the answer.  I have been considering ordering the tapes or dvds advertised for this deal..........but after watching the on-line video demo,  I see that part of the "secret" to this ability to make these tight turns, etc.........is applying the brakes and using the throttle and clutch to power thru the  turns.......My question is ABS.

Would not the ABS (which activates at 3 mph) NOT allow this method to work?????????????????? :huh2:

It'll work because you are using the rear brake as a stabilizer (adding some drag), not locking up the rear wheel
