Not sure if you've contacted Keyboard, but they run a pretty good operation.

I've used Keyboard...  They place the bike on a custom shipping jig - they specialize in shipping motorcycles and will pickup and deliver door to door (to a residential neighborhood).   The driver load and unloads the bike to your doorstep.  Here's a photo of our FXR being unloaded by the driver - shipped from Matthews, North Carolina to Northern Illinois for about $500.00.  :2vrolijk_21:

How long ago was this?
I ask because that sounds overly reasonable.
I don't think I could get from nc to illinois for $500.00 with the cost of diesel fuel today.

Three/four years ago or so...  Of course there was a semi load of bikes being transported and delivered, mine was just one of many along the route, so we all shared the cost of the trip....

That explains it.

I spoke to the owner of Keyboard at Sturgis last yr and watched them unload a semi full of bikes.  They were very careful, used padded straps to tie the bikes down, each bike was on its own skid, etc.  The owner said he was the transportation company for several small motorcycle companies/builders.  BTW, the owner and his daughter were both riding immaculate CVOs, so I think he gets how picky we get over our bikes.

That would be a nice ride. Break it down over three days, no more than 700-800 miles a day.
