Title: Newbie 05 FLHTCSE2 questions/comments
Post by: nunnster on June 25, 2022, 03:42:32 PM
I recently acquired a 2005 Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide that is a bit of project... Was sold at a large reseller, probably came from auction. No documentation other than a clean title. Bike has 58K mi, no lowers or tour pack, with evidence of right side laydown (front fender leading edge paint, front brake lever non-original replacement, rt passenger floorboard mount bent, rt saddlebag scratched along bottom edge.
Runs great with no engine noise. I have obtained a Haynes manual and a pdf owner's manual, but have not yet bit the bullet on a HD Service Manual or Supplement. I inspected the cam chain tensioners - they appear to be brand new. It has adjustable pushrods, high flow intake cleaner (in stock cover), and Rinehart 3 1/2" true duals. I see no EFI tuner, but plugs are a nice light tan and there is no hesitation and only occasional decel popping - should I assume it has had a re-map? Tires, drive belt and brakes appear new. Chrome and paint really good for the year, other than as noted previously.
Oil pressure comes up quickly when stated to 35psi at idle and 45 at 3000 rpm. Voltage indicates 12 at idle and 13.8 at speed. No temp gauge installed, but after a good run at 85 F ambient, no excessive heat is felt. I love the hydraulic clutch. The engine has a LOT more pop than the 04 FLHTPI 88 twin cam I owned previously. 5-speed trans shifts fine; no primary noise.
I look forward to learning about and enjoying this bike and am grateful for the information I have found here.
Appreciate any comments or advice!

Congrats on your new Cherry.  No need in buying the manuals as I have them in pdf (including the Screamin Eagle Supplement) and would be happy to email them to you.  If you want them, pm me your email address.  It will take several emails to get all of it as it’s a very large file.

Welcome...I believe your year of CVO did not come with a tour pack. The motor should be a 103.
FLHTCSE2 did come with matching tour pack.

It definitely came with detachable tourpak & color matched lowers. I bought one of the Red ones new, great bike.

Beside the previously mentioned lowers and tour pak the bike appears pretty well stock and in nice shape.  Those are a great bike.  I had one brand new and it was one of my favorite bikes ever.  Having kept mine close to stock as yours appears to be I can appreciate how you'll enjoy it.

Welcome from Northern California.  Great bike!  I had a 2004 and wish I still had it.

The tour pack that I see on certain bikes of that year are not "Ultra" packs. None of them have lights which would tell me someone installed one that is actually a "Classic" no lights TP.

Stock pak with that bike was not a king sized pak at all but, instead, was the chopped pak.  A medium sized pak between the razer paks that came later that the various "king" sized paks (ultra with lights or just that big but without).

Not only a newbie to SEEG, I am evidently and old geezer with tech limitations..
How can I pm another member? When I attempt to send a message, I check that "I am not a robot" but message fails to send with comment that what I typed did not match Captiva image. I am not provided an image...

Upon further investigation I stand corrected. I guess they did come with a tour pack. Just not the type I thought. Thanks guys for the clarification.

(Please note everything that follows is complete and utter bullsh*t with no basis in actual knowledge, practice, or firsthand experience.  Now, with that out of the way....)

To solve your problem you have to go to Neal's house and give him two dollars in person.  American dollars.  He's picky about that part.

^^^^^ oh yeah, Neal is the Grand Pooh-bah here ^^^^^^

There are other Lesser Pooh-bahs.  I don't know how many.  But some.  And they do stuff.

But Neal is the one to get your two dollars (American).

Can I assume you’re trying to pm me for the service manual?  If so I’ll pm you and maybe you can just respond that way.  Also, I do not have the owners manual that you have in pdf so what do you say…I’ll email you the service manual if you’ll email me the owners manual, sound like a fair trade?

Congrats on your new beautiful bike! I too have a little bit of a project, but absolutely loving the model.
The tour pack in question came as they say with the bike, and is equipped with an automatically actuated interior light. No lights on the outside.

Does your bike have the stock radio? I'm having issues with changing out mine. The radio has 2 plugs at the rear and all the installation kits have just 1. my radio keeps cutting out and I've been through all the wires and i believe now that the radio is bad. Any help is appreciated.

What you're seeing is the difference between the standard or non-CVO bikes and the upgraded radio that was installed in the CVO bikes.  Standard bikes' radio do not have an extra amplifier built in (it's small and not very good but it's there) and don't have or need the overlay harness.  The CVO bikes' radio is a little fancier but it requires that overlay or second harness.  That harness terminates at the fuse panel at its other end.  Inside the fairing it connects to the radio AND supplies a second replacement set of speaker outputs for the speakers in the fairing.  Your speakers run off that set of wires.  If you ever do a radio swap that does not use the overlay harness you'll need to find the original speaker output wires.  They are in the fairing also and happily living up close to the speakers.

Congrats on the bike, sorry for such a late reply. Just thought you would want to know, Fallen Cycles on EBay just picked up a bike like yours (Ours). If you need anything, they just might have it. So how is it holding up? any wobble? I get some wobble after 65.
