Title: Can't get it into neutral
Post by: Indenial on August 15, 2022, 11:15:13 AM
OK, so wondering what's wrong and what might be a fix.  Cold engine/tranny is usually not  a problem. But recently on a 10 day trip, when it gets hot and we pull into a gas station, I can't find neutral.  I'll try for maybe 8-10 times, get frustrated, and shut it off in gear. Then restart in gear with the clutch pulled in.  This happened every time it was heated up, all week.  Has this happened to anyone?  What was the fix?

I've seen it happen with too much fluid in the primary.  :nixweiss:

I've had good results with getting it into neutral before re-starting.  Seems to cooperate when it's cooled down a little.

All of the aftermarket transmission and primary fluids I've used have been better than HD SYN-3.

Primary chain may be too tight.

Dealer has put Formula + in it since it was new and have never had a problem, until now.

Is your drive belt loose? I have no idea why, but when they are loose it's hard to find neutral.

How many miles on the current fluid?
I have always used Formula + on every bike I've had. I have tried different types but seemed to make more noise so I went back to Formula +.
I do my own service and charge all fluids on the 5,000 mark.
Just wanting to keep everything as clean as possible.
I always start to bike in neutral unless I stall it and must restart right away.
Back to my experience with getting into neutral,  yes sometimes it does present a pass through but each HD I've had did also.

If you haven't already solved the issue,  as 101 mentioned it's possible your primary chain has become too tight.
