Title: Prices
Post by: mike weimer on November 05, 2022, 09:50:11 AM
Stopped by local dealer in Baton Rouge yesterday. They have a sand dune 21 used roadglide so I asked sales guy the price. He responded upper $40000s. WTH I just can’t imagine people will pay that much over nada.

You have to take some responsibility here…how dare you ask the price!  You’re only supposed to ask what the payment is like the rest of the sheep.

Seems that all businesses have adopted the Disney World philosophy of keep raising the prices until no one shows up.  That’s worked well for Disney for 50 years now and the place is still packed out everyday.

Couldn't have said it any better.

Supply vs. demand always determines what the market will bare. Put me down for a "NO". In late September of 2010 I remember getting $4000 knocked off the price of a CVO when I was the single non-employee in that dealership staring at 3 sales people that sat overlooking a showroom full of bikes and NO buyers. The reality of this economy has not hit hard yet. Will it? I don't know, but the pool of $40k+ bike buyers might dry up quickly.

My first CVO, a 2009 Road Glide was 32K.  This year the CVO Road Glide is 44,899 plus 750 freight and 1200 surcharge.  That brings it to 46,1174 before tax title and tag.

In TN that translates to 50K with tax title and tag.  To me not really a question of being able to afford it.  More of a question is it worth that much money for a bike who's suspension and frame is 14 years old?  Every other touring bike on the market has better suspension and handling.  This new bike is not much different than the 09 I had but is 14K more.

They're seriously smoking something good to ask that much. Funny thing is, some dummy will probably give then what they want. No wonder that new Pursuit is looking better to me by the day, only $33k for a top of the line bike that will outperform even a modded HD.

Showrooms I've stopped at around SoCal recently are full and recession is not the problem in my opinion....plain old Greed or just a miss understanding of the market!  Who is gonna pay 60K for a new CVO (Dealer asking price) especially if you have owned one previously and don't appreciate all the subtractions.  I could barely justify what I paid for my 17' and I got it out the door for sticker!

The prices have become ridiculous! I felt when I bought my first CVO in 2004 at least I saw value over a non CVO. I no longer feel that way and I can find other ways to spend my money. If I want another bike, there are so many better options out there. I wish HD well with their new bikes,  but it won’t be with my money.

I was one of the faithful but Harley-Davidson's rising prices and cheapening features will do them in, at least in the touring market. Perhaps that is why they are focusing on other models.

The new CVO RG Limited with its 1960's technology is $44,899 plus $3,000 for paint. Harley claims it weighs 953 lb wet with 125 ft lb of torque and maybe 100 horsepower. Harley claims a 31° lean angle. This excludes any extended warranty and the thousands of you will likely spend on upgrades.

BMW Grand America: $27,465, 809 lb wet, 135 ft lb, 160 hp, 45° lean, fully electronic, quiet, smooth. Sorry Harley.

I agree 100% with the ridiculous pricing and I do believe it’s going to backfire on the dealerships this year specially on the inflated used bike prices. However owning a Harley has never been about performance. I’ve been riding for 45+ years and the first 20 were exclusively on high performance metric bikes then I had a few years where I kept both a sport touring bike and a Harley in the garage and for the last 18 years, I’ve only ridden Harley’s and don’t see myself ever riding another brand. I still say from an all around perspective, the fjr1300 I rode in 2004 was probably the best all around performance bike. But it wasn’t a Harley, lol!
