Legend air shocks
« on: January 20, 2007, 08:52:21 PM »

Could someone tell me the difference between Legend air shocks, some show the kit with a air pressure gauge that goes on the rocker box and a small switch, other kits have no gauge but has a switch on the handlebars, is one an older style?
Is that the only difference, are the shocks the same.

Thanks

For a discussion of nearly all things Legend go here:

First part of the thread is an acquisitions discussion leading up to a group purchase.  After that it's all install and usage though; including the different switch options.

They quit supplying the air gauge early last year.  So anything with that included is old stock, but I think the shocks themselves are unchanged.

Ernie...they did make a change in the internals of the shocks a couple of three years ago, according to what somebody at Legends (Kevin, I think) told me.  I don't know if it was a significant change, just a damping valve change from my understanding (a couple of more shims?).  If the price is right, I wouldn't be afraid of the "older" system...you can always get the switch you want, or use the one provided. The gauge is history...they had trouble with them due to location (too much heat)  Spydyglide here has one on his though, and has had the Legends for a few years....loves 'em.

When I first looked into a FL Legend Air Ride System - 2002 or 2003
Legends was actually taking in old Harley Shocks and rebuilding them to work with their system
With the rebuild of old Harley shocks the ride was just not there so they designed the current version
There is no comparison old vs new as the new design is 100% better better ride than previous

I have the first generation converted shocks and they were great for the first three years or so. Last season I noticed my bagger was riding worse than my rigid so I swapped the shocks back to my OEM's. While goofing with the Legends converted shocks I found that one of the shocks had been stuck in one position. I tossed them on the bench and something came loose in one of them and shot across the bench top. I have not put them back on however I'm tempted to try them to see if they are any good.
