    • CVO1: 2021 CVO Limited

I purchased a 2021 CVO limited back in September. I didn’t notice until last month that the passenger floorboards were not adjustable. I contacted Harley customer service thinking that either this was a one-off mistake in manufacturing or someone at the dealer swapped things out and never let anybody know. Initially, I was told to take my bike to my local dealer to have them verify the situation and have the dealer call them to have the situation rectified. The dealer called Harley customer service and he was told that any CVO Limited manufactured after April 27, 2021 will no longer have adjustable passenger floorboards included. I subsequently called Harley customer service and spoke with Terry and Madeline. Between the two of them, I was told at least three different explanations. I was told it was a supply chain issue, I was told it was an issue with the manufacture of the adjustable floorboards, and I was told that it was a decision that corporate made to simply stop providing adjustable floorboards for the passenger. Terry from Harley customer service then followed up with the dealer and then told me that I should contact the dealer for any resolution. I continued asking Harley customer service why they have continued to advertise these bikes on their website  showing the adjustable floorboards if they are not actually providing them. Nobody could provide an answer to me other than Madeline said she would notify the appropriate department to have them change the photos, which obviously has never been taken care of.  Terry at Harley customer service told me that a memo was sent to dealers and that they should have explained that to me when they sold me the bike. I told him what an outrageous statement that was and continued on that no salesman in his right mind would start telling me things that have been removed from the bike, while at the same time trying to sell it to me.  I did contact the dealer and was told that this was a manufacturing issue and that if anybody is responsible it is corporate. He told me that we just sell the bikes the way they come to us. I did ask both the dealer and Harley customer service why I wasn’t given a price reduction on the bike since they removed a part that sells for over $380. Ultimately, nobody wants to take responsibility for this, no price reductions have been offered and assuming that these parts will become available, I asked for a commitment to provide me with the part once they are available. I don’t think that was an unreasonable request as a resolution, however that was denied. This is my fifth CVO in 12 years and due to their handling of the problem, it will very likely be my last Harley Davidson.  I am ver curious what others think about this. Am I overreacting?  I don’t think so. What other parts are they simply substituting on bikes without making their customers aware?  Any suggestions moving forward?  Is there anybody else out there in the same situation?  Thanks for taking the time to read all of that.

I would tend to think it's a supply chain issue since Harley put them on the early 2021's. Whatever it is, HD should be compensating there customers the difference in cost. For what it's worth I wouldn't be happy either

False advertisement is a bad thing. If your situation doesn't get resolved I wouldn't go as far as to say this would be "my last Harley". I would just go buy some aftermarket adjustable pegs.....

I feel like I’ve already paid for adjustable mounts, so I really don’t feel like I should have to go out and pay for them a second time by purchasing aftermarket either.

Take screen shots of the website.

Preserve emails with the moco responses

Sue the moco in small claims court

It'll cost them more for an hour of an attorneys time than to give them to you.

I'm not familiar with the Limited.  Where does HD spec that the 2021 has adjustable passenger floorboards?

I was wondering the same thing so I went to the HD site to look at new bikes, and the pictures sure look like they have adjustable mounts for the passenger floor boards.
Go back to the selling dealer and show them and see what they are willing to do.

It’s unfortunate that this happened. Not really the salesman’s fault if he wasn’t informed. I know that doesn’t help here, but my dealer has gone far and above what I expected when it comes to problems like this.
This is really HD Corp fault. I’ve had had 2 CVO Limiteds with the adjustable mounts, and if I was getting a new one, I’d expect them too!

Last 3 CVOs have been/are CVO Streetglides. I bought my ‘21 at the beginning of March and it only had passenger pegs.
‘21 doesn’t have lower leg fairings which I could see before the purchase. Oh, and then no leg fairing speakers either which my ‘19 had. And no, the price didn’t come down!! Not happy, but ok, that’s the way it is.

I made a list of parts/accessories I wanted to add a week or two after that and one of the accessories was to add the adjustable passenger footboard mounts like you expected to have on your CVO. Guess what, I still haven’t received them, and frankly I don’t much care anymore. I ended up buying the raised mounts to put my footboards on.

During the early summer, the parts guy said he did a dealer search and only found 2 or 3 in stock at various dealerships. And no dealership would part with them.  :nixweiss:

I have a 2021 cvo limited. The passenger floorboards are adjustable just like the 2017 cvo limited I had before. Not sure what the deal is with yours. Can you post a pic?

Same issue for me, 2021 CVO Limited, bought mine July 2021,  this is my 3rd CVO but the first one not to have the adjustable passenger floor board mounts. Did not notice this until I got the bike home. My guess is the Motor Company found yet another way to save a buck. Note, I'm ok with it because I never really cared for the look of the adjustable mount, this mount gives a much cleaner look.

They still have the adjustable mounts on Ronnie's Harley Davidson Parts Finder, which are the same part numbers as my 2019 mounts, maybe they will supply them later, I work at an Audi dealer, right now when you buy a new one, you only get one key/remote because of the chip shortage, their suppose to supply the second one when they have stock??

The simple solution I offered to Harley customer service was to commit to me that once they become available, I would receive a set. They refused.

You should be upset.

So I went onto Harley's website to see if they gave a detailed description of your bike. Couldn't find anything detailed.
Next I compared it to a standard Limited. Again not enough detail.
I then went to the bottom of their web page and clicked on the Owners Manuals link. I loaded my 2015 CVO Limited VIN number, went to vehicle documents, and clicked on Owner's Manual. Clicked on Controls and Indicators, and then clicked on Adjustable Passenger Foot Boards. It showed how to adjust them.

My thought is if the Owner's Manual for your bike has the Adjustable Foot Boards instructions, then the bike should have them. Call again and have them explain this if they show up for your year bike.

I also went to the parts section and there is currently a 12 week wait for Adjustable Passenger Foot Boards.

Seems like they don't have these and are throwing on standard brackets.

Good Luck

I would be upset, but nowdays I guess it is to be expected from the MoCo.   It is probably true being a supply chain issue, all the parts from China are sitting in ships off the coast in California.

I have bought my last CVO and probably last HD, my 16 has IMO one of the last decent paint jobs for a Limited and came with chrome accessories.   For what the MoCo wants for the new ones with the dated tech, limited accessories, and crap paint schemes I am done with them; the CVO line used to be the dream bikes, now they are just profit.   :soapbox:

Not all.  Last new bike I bought was a 2005.  That was the last of quite a few over lots of years.  Issues mounted thereafter and were compounded by company behavior.  I rely on good aftermarket for parts everywhere I can for all my bikes and really can not envision buying a new machine from Mother Harley.  No knock on those that love the new bikes or even some of the improvements seen in the company and its engineering.  I'm just someone they lost though.  If shopping new it'd be Indian or Goldwing.  But, realistically, my old bikes do everything I need them to and do so more reliably and with less expense.  Some stuff on the newer machines I could not work on at home.  Can do anything that needs to be done on the relics I have here.

This is my position to a "T".  I'm keeping the 2006 Harley I have, and I just bought a GoldWing.  Threads like this one leave me feeling angry and frustrated.  Angry at the MoCo, and frustrated for the original poster.

It shouldn't be like this.  But it is, and we accept it.

MoCo is playing a Jenga game with their bikes.  Question is - how many parts will they remove before the whole thing falls down?

Am on my last HD unless something unforeseen happens, like I win 1 in a drawing.  Paying more for less is much too common these days as a business marketing strategy & as long as we pay & play, it will continue.

I had the Goldwing (2019) for 2 yrs and hated it every moment. Went from a '16 CVO Ltd to '19 GW and now back to a '21 CVO Ltd. IMO no comparison, I like the CVO much better. My FIL has had GWs all his life and wouldn't buy anything else. To each his own, hope you enjoy your GW, it's a great bike but just not for me.

GM is doing basically the same thing, at least on the trucks. You no longer get heated seats, heated steering wheel or Auto start/stop and no HD radio station availability and only get pennies off the price for the lack of these items. BUT they will notify you, or the dealer(?) when the items are available as a kit and will be retro-fit for FREE.
HD should own-up and do the same.

Disagree! Love the bronze armor. Wasn’t sure how all finish on the metal parts would hold up but one year later, so far so good.

Plain and simple. The bean counters had to justify their lucrative salaries and had to delete the adjustable passenger foot boards. They did the same thing with the 2020 CVO bikes by deleting satellite radio, CVO rider foot board mounts (cheap black mounts instead of the aluminum they've always had) and quite a few other items.
I got rid of my 2020 CVO Limited and am through with Harley.
Besides, within 5 years, they will either go belly up or more likely be sold to an overseas company.
As with everything, they had a long run and it's time for it to end.

I will never ride anything but a Harley. The joy and enjoyment my wife and I have had riding our hogs over the years is irreplaceable! Yes they are not perfect but nothing else compares.

And that’s why HD does what it does. They know they have a base of loyal followers who will always purchase HD regardless of anything.  I have to say, I admire your total commitment and brand loyalty.

I have no brand loyalty and go through bikes pretty regularly. I do shop around, and always look at the other brands.

I always wind up with a Harley.

Raise, lower, move forward. You can switch them from one side of the bike to the other if you need to have them moved back also.  If you happen to complain and you get anywhere with it, please let me know. If they do it for one person, then they’ve set a precedent to continue doing it.

I guess that makes sense to swap sides to move them back - thanks for the tip!!

My wife has been on the back all of twice - she rides my older 09 FLHX with a sidehack.

Hope Harley-Davidson goes good on 'em for you.

I have too many HD T-shirts and bought the Harley-Davidson HOG Life membership. Looks like I'm plugged in for a while. I get the frustration - same reason I'll never buy a FORD product again. [2012 Harley-Davidson F-150 - long story].

Come on spring!!
