How to Remove 12035B Mainshaft FXR4 seal?
« on: September 10, 2022, 06:41:41 PM »

I have bike apart to change the 12035B seal. I tried using pics to carefully remove the rubber seal and Not scratch the Mainshaft sealing surface. I tried using a Lisle 58530 seal removal tool. I got the lip of tool behind the seal then when I tried to remove the seal, the small lip on the tool broke off in seal. I tried a dental pic and pulled and it also broke? I used a small punch to see if the seal would move. A tapped it and a big part of it moved inwards! Now What?
I carefully looked at the service manual and found Nothing on removing the seal only installing the new one. Help!

Drill a couple small holes in the face of the seal 180 degrees apart.  Then put small sheet metal screws in the holes.  Pry it out with wire cutters, pliers, whatever.

All my small drill bits are too short and you would have to drill at an angle. I don't want to chance damaging the sealing surface on the Mainshaft where the final drive seal runs. RIVERA no longer in business. American Prime bought them out but they don't sell transmissions or parts anymore

Hit up a hardware store for a longer bit?  Get a self-tapping (small) bolt or a small sheet metal screw?  Got to be some way to get this done.  I've done it with a hammer and small punch but my go to for that seal is always just putting a screw in it and yanking it out by the head of the screw.
