Time to shop for a new rear suspension
« on: March 23, 2023, 09:53:42 AM »

Hey guys, my stock suspension has ceased and I am in need of a replacement. Can anyone give me a few advice concerning my next purchase? I am 250 lbs, 6' 3" tall and I ride a 2007 CVO ultra Classic Electra Glide. I travel between 6000 to 10000 kms every year (4000 to 6000 miles). I will carry some gear around once or twice per year for long halls (between 20 to 50 lbs). I looked at Progressive 944, legend revo-A, drag specialties, Olin's and Premium ride Emulsion shocks w/ hand-adjustable spring-preload (2.1 inches) from a 2023 street glide low but I am not sure which one would be best for me.

Anyone that has any experience with any of these and advice with which one I should go with?

Thanks!

I've run Ohlins for the last 7 years on my '15 Ultra. They work but they come with a needed rebuild every 25k miles to the tune of around $300 USD. I recently got a set of 14" Supershox with the relocation bracket that actually sits the bike a 1/2" lower than stock but gives 3.5" of travel. No miles on them yet but many reviews out there on them. The big reason I switched other than the rebuild cost which is about every 3 years for me is ease of adjustment on the SS. I'll toss the Ohlins on my '12 RGC when I get around to it as I won't need to adjust them very often on that bike compared to mixed single/two up riding on the Ultra.

I had Supershox on my bike for two years and switched to Ohins and honestly I felt no difference. Doing the Ohlins in the front did make a difference but I also went to a fat front tire so no real side by side comparison to the stock front. Anything is better than stock!

I've had extremely good performance and service from my Legend Revo A's and the folks at Legends are top notch as well. Lifetime warranty and no need for maintenance rebuilds. I did blow a seal at about 30k and all it cost me was shipping back to Sturgis SD! They had me send both shocks back and they were returned with all new seals AND springs...no charge.

I would do business with them again in a heartbeat.

PS. If you call them they generally will not pick up the phone but they will return your call in a timely manner.

I've had both RWD RS-1 and Legend Revo-A on my bikes last few years. Both are great, require no rebuilds and easily adjustable. I went with Revo-A's this time because they are rated up to 500 lb's with standard springs, no external reservoirs to worry about, lifetime warranty and USA made. I am 205 lb and riding 2 up, our combined weight with gear is probably around the 350 lb limit that many shocks have to go from standard duty to heavy duty springs.
