Another Pomona scoop  :apple:  Trask Performance will be making this windshield in the near future. I'm sorry the pics don't do it justice but it will give you a hint. The whole thing is molded around the radio pod and the lip is much further back than stock.   Doc

Looks pretty sporty!  Got any shots from a few steps back?  What about sizes, will they have taller ones?

Is this not the same windshield I posted here??? Didn't seem like anyone was interested in the info when I posted it.

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=17927.0

Available in two sizes in two colors designed by Brian Klock of Klock Werks. Will be available via Drag Specialties soon. Called WFB flare windshield, $169 retail.

(edit) I'd go for the low one Brian (/edit)

Roy, I'm pretty sure it's 2 different shields.  The one up above in this thread looks like it's all smoked plexiglass.  The one you posted a photo of in the other thread looks to have a solid black trim piece around the base.  Similar shapes, but the one grandpadoc posted looks a little slicker, at least to my eye.

At the end of the day, I'm probably just going to do the Clearview.  I'm impressed enough with the way that the Eurolip works with the one on the SEEG that it's tough to think about doing anything else.  Still maintains a stock look, too, more so that these two options.  (Gotta keep Gary, the "Mod Police," off my a$$. ;) :D)

Brian,

You'r probably right about the shields being different. The pictures supplied don't really show much, but you've got a good eye. I saw the trim piece on the WFB shield but forgot about it, looks kind of bogus. I really couldn't tell if the pic of the Trask shield was black or just dark smoke. With these shields being so new and not much info on them I would think they could change before being available.

Reo, The shield I posted looks like it has more rounded transition points and it was opaque. The one on your link looks to have sharp transitions. Very similar though !  Doc

If a windshield measures 8", is that the overall distance or the distance above the molding? Mine is 9" but that 8" looks way shorter. I'd like to get a 12" smoke but worry about that one being too tall and either in my eyeline or above it making night riding a pain. Thinking the 8" may be too low but with that flare at the top it may be the same as my 9". ?? :nixweiss:

Rob

I was told to measure from the very top to the very bottom with the shield off the bike. Any other way you can get different measurements. I added the chrome trim part that's about two inches wide so to get a true measurement I took it off. I ordered a 14" Clearview w/recurve. Great company but 7 to 8 weeks delivery try's my patience.
From what I have read here on the site it's worth the wait.

SB,

Thanks! I also have the 2" chrome piece as well and cannot remember where I measured from at the moment.  :P I like to get as much shield as I can without having to look through it so I don't have to worry about it fogging up or getting "buggy" on me and blocking my view. The one I have now I think is the stock tallest one and then my dealer had it cut down three inches for me. But I may have the shorter one on???? :nixweiss: ;D I'm SO confused!!

So go measure it and then check the Clearview site.
Just hope you can be patient enough to wait.
Let me know if I can help!

Okay. I got 13" to the center of the chrome piece and 14" to the bottom! I am NOT taking that thing apart to measure the actual size from top to bottom!!  :huepfenlol2: :pineapple:

I'm a little new to the SERG stuff.
Lets see what Otis or 103T or Grandpadoc say about their measureing?

On a Road Glide, the measurements should be for the overall distance (top to bottom, measured in the center of the shield) since the windshields on them do not go down into the fairing like on an Electra Glide.  I measured my 12" H-D windshield and it came out right at 12" when allowing for where the shield ends inside the rubber trim.

I think it's fair to say you have a 14" windshield on yours.  I'm going to a 14" since the 12" is too short.  I get a windblast at highway speeds that hits me in the forehead and I can see way over the top of if, so I'm hoping the 14" Clearview with recurve will end up being perfect for me.

You didn't say for sure what brand you're looking at, so one thing to keep in mind if you are looking at one of the other shields mentioned in this thread, if the shape/angle of the shield is different from stock, that is going to throw a whole different variable into play as far as what height would be best.

I'm going to pass on the windshield trim on mine.  For me, the SERGs are less about chrome and flash than the SEEGs.  I pretty much think it's perfect just the way it is. :2vrolijk_21:

Both of these windshields are nice pieces. They appear to be for the newer style fairings. This makes me wonder if there will be a version for the previous fairing, our SERG's.

I think it's only when you get into the taller windshields that the fairing angle change in '04 comes into play.  I've got the 4 1/2" solid black "Wind Deflector" that H-D says fits '98 and up.  Harley also has a 7" tall "Contoured Wind Deflector" that's good for '98 and up, but then when you get into anything taller (next is a 9 1/2"), they start breaking them out between '98 - '03 and '04 and up fitments.

Hmmm, recall you were going to stay "stock", now that has become "stock look", which opens up the field quite a bit.  Chrome, cams and Rineharts are next in preparation for meeting OTIS in MV 08. ;)

That's good info.  :2vrolijk_21:

Does the aero lip on any of these shields allow you to shorten the height of the shield in comparison to a standard shield?

Not sure what Trask Performance's or Klock Werks' claims are, but Clearview says their "recurve" is like adding 2" of height.  I think most of us here would agree with that.

Hmmm, recall you were going to stay "stock", now that has become "stock look", which opens up the field quite a bit.  Chrome, cams and Rineharts are next in preparation for meeting OTIS in MV 08. ;)

Hmmmmmm.  I wonder if I could get the shark fin tips on the Rineharts? :nixweiss: :idea2: ;D

I'll use the 2" as a standard when looking at the various shields. A good looking shield is what my bike lacks. I just can't give up the wind protection for vanity. ;) ;D

Having one of the end caps to begin with will give all the dimensional information necessary for fitment.  Let a decent machinist have it with a sketch of what what you want and he could one-off a set from billet.

Might even touch base with Eastern Performance in Maryland.  They already offer a few different end caps for the Rineharts.  If they could be convinced a market existed it might be something else they'd cut to add to their current pieces.

Did you see my pipes hanging from the ceiling in the garage?
Now, everytime I go out there I look up and wonder how those tips would perform on a set of Rineharts!

Someday if I ever get off restriction I may find out.

The simple answer is NO!

The rest of the story is that the bikes showed 468 miles on the odometer but the tires had no tits. The tires looked to be about 1/2 worn down. Craig (lilbear) looked at it for me and pointed out some other issues. Bottom line was the bike wasn't what it was portrayed to be!
So we passed!

I ordered the 8" black Klock Werks windshield today.  :) It should be here Tuesday  :2vrolijk_21: However it may be awhile before I get a chance to test it. I was torn between the 8" and the 12". I couldn't find any pictures of the 12" to try and gauge where it is going to sit as far as my eyeline. I emailed John from Klock Werks and here is his response.

With your new windshields and the curved top what would be your best guess as to what the curve may simulate height wise. Ex. does a 8" curved windshield simulate a 10" standard windshield, or does the curved top and contoured shield offer even greater protection.

John

Mike, the windshield offers greater wind protection than a standard 10” windshield. I am 5’11” and test ride our customer’s bikes with the 8” and have no wind issues wearing standard sunglasses, the wind is moved around the “hips” of the windshield and then off the lip up and over your head, on me it hits about the top of the helmet.

I have seen a couple of bikes posted with Klock Werks windshields on them, most common is the burnt orange/red bike and the blue bike with silver stripes. What size windshields are these bikes running?

Mike, those are both 8”

I search the internet for hours during the day when I should be working looking for new products to fit the Road Glide.
Check out Hells Foundry and their headlight trim pieces.

Their pre wired handlebars.

Pro One has really nice speaker grill trim.

I thought of trying these on our fixed fairing.

I got to this thread a little late. Our first run of the road glide windshields were in the 8 inch version. We sold out of the black right away. We have the smoked 8" on hand. Right now our supply is running short on demand. I'm not going to make any excuses. Just trying to keep up and get more inventory.

More 8" shields are on their way and the 12" shields will be also. We are also following them up with shields for the batwing fairing. Working on a few shades of tint right now from black to light smoke. Lots of versions on the way.

Just an FYI, the shields are not Lexan. They are polycarbonate for durability. Only exception is the clear versions are acrylic coated so they can be painted.

The Road Glide windshield does work with the chrome windshield trim. Have pictures they are just not on our website yet. Not pushing it real hard because we don't have a lot of inventory.

To give you an idea on how the 8" shield affects the rider. I am 6'4". The short Harley windshield puts the wind right in my eyes and shakes my sunglasses on my face. With the 8" flare windshield the wind shoots over and no longer shake my glasses. The 12" version is intended to provide some wind deflection for a passenger and deflect road debris.

The 8" version was wind tunnel tested when we were doing streamlining for our Bonneville racer. Long story short the windshield creates a pocket of air the rider sets in . With the 8" flare windshield a road glide fairing has the same drag coefficient with the rider sitting straight up as it does when the rider is crouched down. What does this mean? The air flows over the rider.

The flare windshield also gave us a good increase of down force on the road glide fairing. This is good because in the wind tunnel we found the road glide fairing gains considerable lift at speed, which is bad. When we were at the salt flats last year with our bike we found quite a bit of instability with the stock road glide fairing at high speed. Go figure?!? This year with some aerodynamic changes like the flare windshield we were able to eliminate the instability.

I hope I didn't ramble too much and hope I did answer some of your questions. If you need photos or answers please feel free to contact us at the shop. Mon-Fri 8-5 CST. We can talk to you on the phone or answer your emails.

605-996-3700 or partsman@kustomcycles.com

Thanks

8" Flare on Road Glide.

12" on Road Glide, Rider is 5'9". Shield is below the riders line of sight. 12" was designed to
provide some additional wind deflection for a passenger and provide some protection from road
 debris.

Little bit closer view.

And a front view.

And Yes, the Road Glide trim does fit. This is an 8" shield.

You would think he would have at least taken the blue tape off the windshield trim before he posted a picture on the internet!

 :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

But other than that they look good.

Wonder if it takes 8 weeks to get one like my Clearview?

Don't know who came up with it first but I saw the news release some time ago about Brian Klock with the flair and posted it here but I guess the thread got un-noticed. Funny how this thread brought the item to life. Check my post.

This post started life as a post on the Trask windshield. The KW windshield "just" grew into the thread. I'd still like to try the Trask windshield when it hits the market. My emails to them have went unanswered unlike the ones I sent to KW.

Thanks for the pic's of the windshield Puzzled, still not much solid info these windshields yet. I was just amazed that after I posted the news of the K/W Flair in the other thread there was no interest. I know if I had a R-G I would have one. I was then surprised when this thread took off.

One side note. I saw the extream backcurve windshield (best description I could come up with) that you posted for the seeg and I remember now that this style windshield has surfaced from time to time on the HD-forums website. I think one of the members over there makes them. I'll try and find that other thread and post there what I know of what had been written on it.

John from Klock Werks started posting on the HD forums a couple of days ago. From there the only other curved lip windshield I have seen for a RG is a Clearview. From those who own them they seem to be a good company. It is the lead times that will scare off impulse buyers like myself. ;D Now if there is another curved windshield being made I simply missed it and would welcome any information on it. :2vrolijk_21:

The extream back curve I saw on HD-Forums was for the eg batwing, not the RG, thats why I posted the initial thread showing the KW Flare from thuder press cause I never saw an extream backcurve for a RG and it looked good to me.

I posted what I remember about the comments from HD-Forums on the other thread you started re: KW's Flare for the eg.

I heard back from Trask yesterday and I was surprised at the response. I say surprised as it looked like they had a different windshield on the bike pictured.

Mike,

The windshields are available through Klock Werks.

Well it's been more than 8 weeks since I ordered my SERG windshield from Clearview.
They have billed me!
But no windshield.
It may be the greatest there is but delivery time sure sucks!

Don't feel too bad- I ordered mine in September 07 and it finally arrived January 08!  They did tell me they wouldn't charge my credit card until it shipped.  Haven't had the opportunity to ride the bike to see if it was worth the wait ( it is certainly a quality part and makes the Harley windscreen look like a disposable item)

I put a clearview on my SERG last year before heading to Strugis. Yea, it was a 6 or 7 week wait, but worth it. GREAT product that indeed fit better than any HD windshield. The 12" with the recurve works awesome!! Got caught in a strong rainstorm and the windshield kept my chest and head dry. You'll be real happy with yours; even with the long lead time.

On 11-12-07 I ordered my Clearviewshield.

I got this response from them,

Quote
Here is a copy of the invoice for your review. Please let me know if there are any changes that need to be made.
With the volume we are experiencing, we are running about 7-8 weeks to ship.
We will send you an e-mail with the tracking number when your shield ships.

So on Dec 12th I sent them an email asking if I would get the shield by Christmas. The response was,

Quote
We are not going to make it for Christmas......sorry about that, it would have looked good under the tree.
We are still playing catch up here, it looks like it will ship the week of 1/7

So today I sent another email asking that since I didn't get the shield the week of the 7th when were they planning on shipping? And the response was,

Quote
Hello Chip,
We are finally getting close....it will either ship this Friday or early next week.
You will see a tracking number from UPS the evening it ships

So maybe someday!

The wait for these Clearview shields is ridiculous.  I was told 6-7 weeks in the order confirmation e-mail I got from them.  Tomorrow is 8 weeks since I ordered.  In the meantime my credit card was charged on January 7.

Brian

I understand your pain. Been there!

After the third delivery date came and went I sent John an email that said since I had ordered the windshield I had started and built 14 houses. And of those 14, 3 were being lived in and all in less time than it took for him to make one windshield. I really think they would be better advertising 12 weeks so when they shipped at 10 to 11 weeks everyone would be happy.

Finally got the POS today.  Apparently, they had to make 3 within the last couple of weeks just to get a good one.  First one had "3/4-inch scratch on it," so the tried again.  Next one got made with "1/4-inch light surface scratches on it."  Third try was a charm.  (I guess, anyway. :nixweiss:  Haven't taken the protective covering off yet.)  If this happens with every order, no wonder it takes so long. :o

So, ordered it on Tuesday, December 11 and 10 weeks and 2 days later, it finally came.  Cripe! :shocked2: :stars: :rolleyes2: :zwtf: :wall: :freak:

As beautiful as it looks as I ride down the road, the memories of the wait still overshadow the end result!

I'm sure it's gonna be just what the Dr. ordered, but it almost (I said, "almost") makes me glad we have a d@mn winter around here.  I couldn't imagine waiting that long during riding season.  Still think they need to re-examine their practice of charging the Visa before the product ships, too. :sauer005:

(A) Unless your riding season doesn't start 'til Memorial Day weekend, there's a helluva good chance you won't get a Clearview in time.

(B) It was on my SEEG.  Long wait there, too, but the windshield works as advertised (with the Euro-lip) and does not scratch as easily as a stock H-D shield.

(C) Nope.  That's part of the problem.  They do make a pretty nice product (once it finally arrives :-\).

Thanks for the honest opinion. My riding season will start once the salt is washed away. Here one never can be sure. Hopefully in April!!! Guess I better get off the pot and place my order. Thanks Again.

Best that I can tell the SERG windshields take the longest to get shipped.
Call them and ask about the SERK's.
BUT!, whatever they tell you, add another two weeks and you will be fine!
It has to suck when you have a great product and even the customers know you don't deliver when you say you will.

Howie, I'm not thrilled with the 18" Clearview I have. I might order the standard Clearview 17" or possibly a 16". You're taller than me and the 18" I have might be good for you. Let me know, and you can try it in York. If you like it, I'll order a new shorter Clearview, and use the HD mid-low that came with the W/S assembly in the interim.

Do you have, or are you getting a standard 5-hole windshield assembly or using the stock 7-hole windscreen? I have a normal 5-hole W/S, not the stock 7-hole windscreen. Let me know. ;)

Finally got my +2 Clearview for my new '08 RG.  Installed it Sunday morning and went for a 100 mile ride.  I'm 6'4", and it fits me just right - no more buffeting, and I look right over the top.  A BIG improvement over the stock unit.  Sunglasses and do-rag stay where they are supposed to - unlike with the stock shield.  It was a long wait, but worth it (in my opinion).

Anybody need a stock RG shield?

How tall?

12" Klockwerks arrived here this afternoon.  Haven't ridden with it yet though.

After my first experience and finding that's what they used (and how they used them) I visited the hardware aisle at the local Ace Harware store.  Came home with a dozen #10x32 1/2" wellnuts.  I have a feeling a few will get used/lost/whatever as time passes.

12". I just put my stock windshield back on this past week. MUCH better. I bought it as the "photo" shows the wind stream going around the rider. I thought it would be an improvement for mama and even me as well. Neither was the case for us. She said that no matter where she tried to get, she could not get any relief from the wind buffeting her around.

Maybe I will try the Clearview. does anyone have a picture of the taller on on their bike?

This is a 14" Clearview:

No doubt, shorter shields always look better, but you have to strike a balance between functionality and looks. :nixweiss:

My impression of this Klockwerks 12" was initially barely passable as described previously.  Love the look of it.  But the more I ride behind it the less I like it.  Too noisy and it is windier than you'd like.  Anyone shorter than 5'10" want a discounted windshield?

Impressions?

I posted somewhere in another thread that initially, I don't really notice much difference between this 2" taller and recuved Clearview and the 12" H-D windshield I had on it previously. :nixweiss:  Still get some helmet buffeting, which is what I was trying to get away from and swear I have a draft down my back that wasn't there with the H-D shield (caused by the recurve? :nixweiss:).  So, I'm gonna run it for awhile and then switch it out with the H-D shield again and see what I think then.  Helluva lot of money and a long wait not to be impressed, though. :-\

Think I remember reading that after seeing it again here.  Much the same reaction I had to this Klockwerks thing.  At least no long wait though.  Still a 150 dollar piece of plastic that isn't performing near as described by the mftr or nearly well enough to keep on the bike long term.

When I rented a Road Glide last month the one thing I didn't like about it was the wind buffeting.  I attribute this to the fact the shield is located further forward on a Road Glide fairing vs. the SEEG and that the wind seems to come around the sides more than over the top.  Therefore, that probably explains why the Clearview (or any other shield I know of) does not necessarily perform better unless it is wider as well.  Just my $.02

Pete, I was guessing much the same after have dealt with this side scalloped screen for a few days now.  Even though I like this general look better have pretty well decided that the replacement will not be contoured.  Something really do need to be function over form.

Have about 1200 miles on my Clearview and it works great.
It's a 14" also.
Must be a fuzz shorter than Brian. (maybe 2 fuzzes)
Rode 260 today in the cold a$$ mist and the top of my legs was the only thing cold.
I give it a ---------->  :2vrolijk_21:

Delivery time still sucks!

I'm maybe one fuzz shorter than Brian then.  Have to make a windshield decision sooner rather than later though.  The Klockwerks piece for me just won't cut it for rides of any duration.

I'm in, it will work on R/G #2!

Ok, you score RG#2 without getting skinned.  If it's still around I'll send it to be tried out.  If it works for you how about 50 cents on the dollar for what I bought it for last week?

One fuzz shorter might be enough.  If you un-Clearview and re-HD let me know and I'll experiment more.

Unless you decide after I decide what to try next.  Then I'm un-redecided and potentially re-screwed.

12". I just put my stock windshield back on this past week. MUCH better.

Unfortunately his experience was as much or more underwhelming then my own.

Yeah... I don't like it the use of it. Looks wonderful. I guess for someone who rides one up mostly or just is used to riding without one it would be great. But I do not like it so.... I paid like $140.00 for it so it s cheaper than .50 cents on the dollar. If I sell it at that price great.... if not, I have a Glock 26 and 35 on order so I can use it for target practice! Need some satisfaction ya know??? ;D
