Hello from Iraq,

I just order a 09 Springer, and I cannot wait to take delivery in Jan 09 when I'm on mid-tour leave. I was hoping I could get some advance on proper break-in.

Redman - First of all, welcome aboard and thanks so much for serving your country! We are honored and blessed to have you join us!

You said above "I was hoping I could get some advance on proper break-in." Just wanted you to know I would be happy to break in your bike for you - lol.

Assuming you really meant 'advice' and you certainly came to the right place for that! Not only will you get advice on proper break-in but you will also get tons of assistance in tricking out your ride until everything of value you currently own has been sold and turned into either chrome, horsepower, riding gadgetry or stylish accessories!

I have a particular fondness for this years CVO Springer myself. What color did you order? Have seen the yellow and the blue and they both look fantastic! Did you get the yellow, blue or black?

Stay safe over there and know we are praying for your safe return!

Welcome, thanks for your service.

Follow the MOC's recommendations,  and have your dealer do the first service.  Make sure you have them check out any concerns you may have, for documentation sake if nothing else.

Most of all have fun and enjoy the ride.

First I would like to thank everybody for there support. I'm on my third tour in Iraq and currently I'm in month 1 of a 12 month deployment in the Diyala province. I'll try to keep my head down and a$$ out of trouble. But since I have to actually see the bad guys before I can engage them that might be a problem. LOL. Anyways I'm stationed in Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.  So are riding season is pretty much late May through early October.  I ended up ordering the cobalt candy blue. I hope I picked the right color, I have never actullay seen this model in person.
Thanks again to everybody.

You can't go wrong with that color, it's hot.   The best color this year in the springer, in my opinion of course.

I appreciate all your doing for us over there.  I hope your deployment goes well and you make it home safely so you can ride your new bike.  If you ever make it down to Georgia, let me buy you a beer!  THANKS! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

That's awesome!  When/where are you going on mid-tour?

Following the manual for break in really isn't that difficult.  Keeping it under the recommended RPMs will still let you go fast enough to ride on the interstate.  You just won't be hammering the throttle, not just yet anyway.

Redman,

I've seen a few of the candy cobalt springers and they look OUTSTANDING and I haven't even seen one in the sun yet. That always seems to add another dimension. My wife's name is Kandy and she raises springer spaniels so I've been working real hard on convincing her this should be her next bike!

Stay safe!

Thanks for serving and welcome to the site!

Ditto times ten!!  Here's the best article I've seen re break in:  http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
Opinions do vary here but this technique makes sense to me and has seemed to work.
