Never changed a dresser but changed many softtail and it takes a little while to remove the controls and pull the wires threw the stock handle bars if they are already run internally ( have to pull the tank to get to the connector ( it's got a spec name of the connector, holds about 6 wires or so and their ind. numbered, their one for each side) under the tank and disconnect each wire in the connector and label them) then run the wires threw the new bars and mount them and reconnect the wires to the correct terminal on the connector, and reinstall the tank and hope everything works then, ( gotta be carfull not to pinch wires and ect. blew a couple of fuses in my day, but it is a job that is capable for some one semi skilled, but it does take time, 1st time I payed a local shop and watched him do it, and it took him a while, but after a few times ya pick up a few tricks,

And take the front off the fairing to disconnect the  electrical plugs.  You take off the tank so as not to damage it-at least that is what I did with the SERG

I bought Chubby 517's....then got a quote of 8 hours labor at couple of the local HD stores. Needless to say the Chubby's are still in the box.

Two guys working steady that had never done it before - 3 hours. Nothing hard, just slow and tedious to keep from scratching anything and making sure everything works properly.

It really depends on the size of bars you are changing and the need to change cables. If you are changing to a bar that requires a cable change then you are looking a typicaly a 6 hour job. On an ABS bike it can be more and the cost of the cables is another thing to consider. A complete ABS brake line will run about $325. Clutch can run from 60-100 depending on if its cable or hydro. Throttle may be a none issue if its on a 08+ bagger, but earlier models with cables can run about 100 for the pair.

HD-Dude has a good point there on cost, if you need to change out stuff it gets very expensive, quickly. The ones we changed didn't require any new parts, that made it cheaper and easier for sure.
