Welcome from Gulf Coast!!

Yeah I'm with you about all the bells/whistles.  Most of that extra stuff like garage door opener, headset, GPS, etc. is still in the boxes in the garage.

Ride safe.

thanks...Since I'm getting ready to take my first trip (600 mile round trip) in the morning and decided to tackle the bells and whistles...got the GPS set and ready, activated the one-month trial offer for the XM radio, headset is installed, replaced the OEM windshield with the Freedom Shield, and with only 135 miles on it I gave the bike a good going over...tires were low, rear shocks ok, had to tighten one of the saddlebag lights, and adjusted the hand controls...now I'm ready to hit the road.  Will probably stay around 2000 and 3000 rpms during the ride down and increase speed and rpm's on the return trip.

Welcome from SC!  Grew up in Huntsville in 60's and 70's.  Roll Tide! :apple:

I'm one of the few native Huntsvillians.  I learned to ride on my older brother's Vespa in 1963 and when I turned 14...I got a Blue Honda 50 with an upswept pipe. First thing I wanted to do was customize it...so I removed the exhaust baffle, removed the front fender, took the high handlebars from my (no longer needed) 20" bike and put them on the Honda 50. To make it work I had to disconnect my front brake and use the brake lever as the throttle...I never knew the term "safety" back then. I also scavenged the local Honda Shop's junk pile and found a large rear tire (worn out) and installed it on the rear...I had to flare the fenders out to make it fit. I got lots of compliments on it from my ol' riding buddies. Those were great times and even though gas was around 25 cents a gallon we still had to find ways to get gas...so we visited all the gas stations after they closed and drained their gas pump lines...it was all in good fun and most importantly...survival.  I believe I put 10,000 miles a year on that Honda and that was within a 10 mile radius.

What part of Huntsville did you grow-up in?

Roll Tide,

I lived in Whitesburg Estates in South East.  One of the first classes at Grissom High.  I started with a Honda Trail 70 at age 14 in 1970 to deliver the Huntsville Times.  Graduated to a brand new 1972 Honda CB 100.  I remember crossing the Tn. River to buy gas at 24.9 per gallon!  Many fond memories of the Rocket City!!

You were only a few years behind me and lived on the other side of the Parkway from me...I finished Butler in 1970.  I also bet you rode that Trail 70 at the old airport...that was where I rode my dirt bikes.  I also had a Huntsville Times Paper Route...small world.

Thanks for the welcome CJ and JoMo...

And another welcome from a fellow North Alabamaian.  I list Huntsville as home on the site but am only there from sun up to sun down working.  Home is a dead end dirt road in Cullman County.
