Trial and error?  You may be the first one to attempt this.  I'm too busy riding.  Got my 5000 mile service scheduled for the latter part of this month....

5000 mile service already? Sweet! I had my 1000 mile service done about a week and a half ago. Thinking the 2500 mile oil change will be in another week or two.

Got my bike in the mean time 8) and could adjust the speedo colors within some minutes. It's absolute not issue to adjust the colors without knowing the color codes. Just check which color you like and set it. - Enjoy!

I pulled this from the COMBINATION SPEEDOMETER/TACHOMETER GAUGE KIT Instruction sheet [J05551]:
Number - Range Color
000-015 - Red
016-030 - Amber (Orange)
031-060 - Yellow
061-100 - Yellow/Green
101-180 - Green
181-250 - Green/Blue
251-350 - Blue
351-380 - Blue/Violet
381-440 - Violet
441-490 - Pink
491-525 - Red
526-600 - White/Light Colors
Note: Color descriptions and color ranges are approximate.

I know this is a old thread, but my question is with the speedo colors as well. Does it give you the option to have two sets of colors. The reason I ask is my speedo changes color from when it is sunny to dark. It goes from a white to a red. These are the factory settings. Maybe the color change option is only for when it is dark out? Any ideals would be helpful. I would also like to see any pics of some color combos guys have used. I mean heck it says you can have different colors for the needle vs the display and etc. I am curious what guys have messed with.

I changed my color to an emerald green 'cause it gave me the most contrast and visibility.  It's a nice feature.

In sunlight (day time) the speedo is the stock white color and cannot be changed.  At night (low light) the speedo displays the custom setup.  The default setting is red.  You can enter the setup and change color for the whole unit at once or individually set the tach needle, LCD display, and tach numbers all independently. As you change the colors, the display shows you what it ooks like real time so you really don't need to care that one specific color = a particular value.  Just change it until you like the color and then save.
