Hi and welcome to this site.  As you can see, this site is wonderful and you'll get lots of good advice and make lots of good friends on here.  Hold on to your wallet though, they'll encourage you to spend lots of money and if you need ideas on where to spend it, they'll help with that too!  I might as well be a newbie myself - to the site and to riding.  :)  I've been off my bike for over a year or two now I guess with two knee surgeries - ACL and then PCL, lateral release and meniscus.  Not confident enough to get back on yet.  I still have to concentrate to make knee bend right way while walking down stairs.  Just told the tree service man yesterday that it's one thing to tear myself up but can't quite bring myself to risk tearing up my Vrod up so I'll wait a little while longer.  Then maybe I'll take a few test runs on my other (training) bike and see how it goes.  It'll be a lot cheaper to fix (or replace).

V-Girl,

Good to hear from you. Take your time with rehab and knee work. The bike can be repaired easily enough, the body,...well not as easily. You have ALL the skills to ride, they may be a little rusty and in need of practice, but they are there. No need to compound your mind with practicing on questionable knees.

This may sound silly, but try riding a bicycle first. This will let you know how fast and smooth you legs and feet respond to stopping and starting, as well as balance and head and eye work.
