With the Harley heated grips you can't use anything else.  The heating element and grip are an assembly.  So no option.  If you go with the Heat Demons kit as an aftermarket heating element the only thing to heed is that thicker or foam grips won't transmit the heat as well from the internally installed element out through the grip to your hands.

Thanks for the information. I like the stock grips but I've always wondered and kept forgetting to ask.
