Passenger Peg Bolt Hole Covers
« on: April 14, 2013, 08:55:34 AM »

Good morning folks.
I lowered the passenger foot pegs yesterday.  Now I have 2 very unsightly bolt holes visible.  Other than buying some chrome bolts and putting them in the two holes, does Harley make anything or any suggestions from you folk?

Thanks

The bikes are supposed to come from the factory with one hole plug installed on each side.  When you change the mounting location of the footboard or peg, you remove the plug to expose that hole and reinsert it to plug the hole you exposed by moving the peg or board support.  If your bike didn't have them, they are available from the dealership.  Or you could measure the hole and stop by any good hardware store or auto parts store and look through their offerings for bolt hole plugs.

Thanks Jerry, it didn't come with any plugs from the moco.  I will look into it, thanks.

Sometimes the little black plastic plugs are a bit loose. If you plan on keeping the pegs in the bottom position, you might want to,

1. Use a little touch up paint in the thread holes to keep them from rusting.
2. Put a dab of silicone in the hole then put the plug in to keep it from falling out.

I'm scratching my feeble head and trying to remember what size the holes are, and I keep thinking they're a 1/4-20.  If you don't like the black plastic plugs, there are other options.  Some places sell metal plugs (chromed), or you could find some nice short chrome button head screws in the correct size.  Lots of options if you want bling, otherwise the plastic plugs are fine for most of us.

One nice thing about the plastic plugs is that they blend in and it doesn't draw attention to the holes.

Just bought some yesterday. Black plastic, they are called Body-Tite panel trim retainer clips. They do need to be glued in though.........and strangely enough, the Harley part is cheaper!!!

I bought a set of the chrome caps that go into the allen head bolts from the dealership for $5.95.  They come chrome but that's nothing that a little black paint didn't fix.  I've got a few extras kicking around if you need a pair.

I suppose with the correct HD Touch Up Kit, you could color them to match the frame as well.

That's one of the nice things about a black frame. ;)
I have always bought touch up for my bikes so it would be a quick process.

Thanks guys for the replies.  I ended up getting some chrome bolts for the holes.  Looks a little cluttered but the black plastic plugs Harley had looked horrible when I put them on.  The plastic cap in the top hole really didn't fit the contour of the frame.  Looks like I need to date someone with shorter legs so I can raise them back up  :),  thanks for all the great advice and offers.

Looks like if she reads that you are more concerned with the looks of the covers than her comfort you might be dating someone new very soon!  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Pretty funny e-skunk.  She's a good egg, I don't think she will too cranky about my comment.
