RGU removing ignition switch issue
« on: November 04, 2016, 05:25:50 PM »

Hello all,

Trying to remove the ignition switch so I can add the left side aux switches and cant seem to get it loose.

I had no problem on my 04 FLTHCSE.

Do I need to remove the neg battery terminal?

Tried removing the main fuse as the manual says (siren equipped) and siren went off a few minutes after removal.

I tried this;
a. Insert the ignition switch key and turn to the UNLOCK
position. Leave the key installed.
b. See Figure 7-48. Rotate the knob to FORK LOCK.
c. Press and hold the release button at bottom (left side)
of the knob, and turn key 60 degrees counterclockwise.
d. Lift knob to remove. Spring will drop out of bore at
underside of knob when removed.

Is it just being difficult?

Locating the button on the bottom left is not easy.

Thanks!

Turn the ignition on to remove the main fuse. That will prevent the siren from going off.

I assume you're following the procedure from the service manual to remove the ignition switch. I don't have it in front of me but it is a bit tricky and does not seem to work every time. Good luck.

Are you doing this on your '15? That ignition switch (actually it's just a fork lock)  does not need to come out. Just the little trim plate under it.  I've already done what you're trying to do if it's the same bike. A 15 SERGU

Yes same model as yours.

To get to the dash panel/switches the manual says to remove the ignition switch.

I had to do that on my old bike (although it was a FTH).

How did you do it?

Anyone have a photo of the underside of the ignition switch so I can see where the tab is?

Thanks

Update

The bottom side of the ignition switch looks different than pictured, and I don't see any detentes to push.

Guess a trip to the dealer.

Cheers.

YEP! I got one!!..Simply go in that little slot directly below the Horse collar. where the tab is.  . and GENTLY push forward with a small screwdriver against the tab. , while raising up on it with you thumb. I screwed around with it for about 30 min before it just popped  off. Bet it will be a hell of a lot quicker next time!

I then   unbolted the  4 bolts form the side of the "Clamshell" to split it, then lifted the instrument pod up to adjust my bars . Take your time , it will pop right up for you. Defiantly don't need to remove the switch! Think they charge an  hour of so for this..NOT!!

The tab at front of this "horse collar" plate is plastic and a bit delicate so be careful with it and don't force it or youll break it off.

Thanks all, dealer just confirmed your all' posts!

Said that the ignition switch on the CVO' are more of a lock.

Now I just need to figure out what wire is switched 12v from the Auxiliary Power Switch Kit (71400105) for adding my Clearwater lights attached to the fender mounts!

The instructions to the harness are a little vague for the 3 separate wires, Lt. Blue/Green, Black, and Red/blue (switched power?).

Good video showing install of handle bars and removable of gauges.

For the record, The wiring harness that RR is talking about here, the Lt Blue/Green wired is switched and the the red/blue wire is constant 12v. Black is the ground. I just pulled my seat off to check this while on the phone with RR to make sure we have everything figured out.
