OEM Saddlebags for 2014 FLSTNSE
« on: January 21, 2017, 09:08:13 PM »

Anyone know the Harley part number for the OEM saddlebags?  On the used cvo I bought today, the previous owner had installed cheap Saddleman bags.  They look pretty bad, and I'm considering going back to the oem bags.

I can't provide a part number, but I can give you an idea of price.  I bought my '14 CVO Deluxe new in April of '15.  In October of '15 I had already put about 60 miles on the clock that morning and was a half mile from home.  While approaching a traffic light, at no more than 35 MPH, I hit a very slight dip in the pavement and the left saddle bag flipped off of the bike and tumbled/skidded to a stop behind the bike.  The only salvageable part was the lower brace going from the bag to the passenger peg.

Total cost for parts (1 bag w/lock), just over $1,100.00!

Gotta love the CVO parts book and pricing!

Cheers

I was afraid of that....the Saddleman bags on the bike are ultra cheap and of course detract from the overall appearance.  I'll probably be shopping at Viking or elsewhere for something nice.

If you're not in a rush you can probably buy them on EBAY, they are usually scuffed but reupholstering them is probably cheaper than buying new. Below is two examples of one's you can buy now

I bought the RH side from this listing, thanks.  Now can someone who has a '14 or '15 FLSTNSE look at the LH side and see what the Harley part number is?  Much appreciated!

Follow this link to the complete parts manual listing for the bags.

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/ronnies/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=hdmc&a=1007&b=54&c=0&d=2014 FLSTNSE CVO SOFTAIL® DELUXE (TF) SADDLEBAG ASSEMBLY

I'm guessing the original owner probably switched to the cheap Saddleman bags after having one or more of the originals fall off while riding down the road.  If you decide to spend the big bucks to go back to the OEM bags, I suggest you read the threads around here on the subject of the bags falling off and take precautions to make sure yours stay in place.

I know this is an older thread, but I just came across it.  I have to wonder and ask... what in the world did the previous owner do with the original bags??? Why did he/she replace them with Saddlemens???

Sounds crazy, but I can guess at a few reasons:  1.  Harley had an issue with this design (the small rod that keeps the bag locked on), and one or both may have detached and been destroyed.  2.  He may have needed some cash and sold them.....

GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE

Well, it happened to me and it seems that the 2015 locking system for saddlebags has not improved.

I was taking a trip from San Diego to northern California and after a couple of hours, pulled over for an early morning drink. My bike looked so cool cuz I was on a camping trip (#SierraStakeOut) and I had everything so neatly and nicely tied and locked down. Or so I thought.

As I was taking my bragging rights photos, I noticed a glaring hole on the right side of my bike. I didn't hear it, I didn't see it, I didn't feel it fall off. I had taken the I-15 to the I-215 to CA-395 and pulled in at Adelanto (sounds a bit like SNL Californians, doesn't it?)

The bag was gone. I belabored what I was going to do and eventually headed up to Mammoth Lakes for a couple of nights. It was there that I met a guy who had worked for Harley for 15 years and said it is a known problem; that they even have a code for it. He said they will blame you, your riding, your mother, your grandmother... etc, before they take responsibility for a faulty system.

They did.

Meanwhile, I am looking on eBay and found a saddlebag but am not sure of fit.

I have a 2015 CVO Softail Deluxe of which they only made for two years; 2014 and 2015. I found a 2014 saddlebag online and not sure if it is an exact fit.

Does anyone know?

Off on another trip and need a bag ASAP!

I'm looking for a left saddlebag myself after mine flew off today. I was only going about 35 mph and didn't even notice it was missing until a guy flagged me down at a red light and told me. Anyone up for a class action lawsuit?

Seriously dangerous for everyone including the cagers behind you.  Harley should do the right thing and issue a recall to fix the locking mechanism. Such a shame!
