Brewed my third batch of home brew on Sunday.  HMF Double IPA.  Very hoppy & will also be dry hopped in the secondary.  This was also the first recipe I tried - liked it a lot so decided to brew it again.

Due to unseasonable heat (by north Florida standards even) had to resort to a swamp cooler to keep the primary cooler.  Basically a wet towel draped over the primary, which is placed in a bucket of water to keep it cooler than room temp - below 75F is the plan. Will likely use for the secondary as well.

Am now swilling the second batch we brewed when the opportunity arises - also an ale called Heartland Amber.

Cheers!   :drink: :drink:

Awesome Mike! I can't tell by the picture. but you can add some frozen water bottles (2 liter, 20 ounce, etc) to the cooler each morning and night to help keep it cooler. When you get ready scour your local Craigslist for a good used, cheap, free deep freezer then add a temp controller unit and you are set for Florida fermentation. If you need any help, just call my cell.

When I first started I used the two card board boxes the stuff I bought cam in, lined them with Styrofoam, made a kid out of Styrofoam, and added/swapped out 2 liter and 20 ounce frozen water bottles before and after work. Had them sitting in my garage which was 90ish at the time and it kept the temps at 70 degrees on the temp strip of my carboy.

Thanks Rob.  The temp is about 70 with the swamp cooler - have it inside in a bathtub now.  Will try the frozen water bottles as needed this summer.

Have not decided to go the freezer route yet but if I do will check with you.

So far the ales are turning out very well.  Eventually if brewing a lager will need the temp controller/freezer.

Thanks also for the link!

Yes.  But I keep it set on 78 or so.  In the swampy jungle it has been near 90 for a while now.  Mostly due to too many people breathing out warm CO2, without the appropriate breathing permits prolly.

If I lived in the Frozen Wasteland - anything north of the Mason-Dixon - would probably have to guard against the primary freezing or maybe watch out for beer stealing polar bears.

Hey Rob... looking at your numbers... Looks YUMZ! What does your latest brew taste like? Interested in the Wheat grains, and the three hops you added... I LOVE Wheat beers... those three Hops must have added some serious bitterness!
