The tavern
The whistle blows, and frees us from indentured servitude
Slowly, but with full intent, we gather
A meeting of minds, sharing tales
Spilling forth ever more fluidly, as amber drink devour
Our oasis away from the bustle of everyday…
It’s dimmer here, and scent of dripping beer
With tobacco’s remnants chasing
Mostly quiet, lower chatter touches ears
So profound, ideas that born from deadened cells
As the days events portrayed
On tube’s overtly honest bias coverage…
Clapping backs, sharing laughs
Foundations being made
When peppered perfect electoral stamina
Of minds betrayal shows
And behind the bar, they pour our drinks
While the conversation flows:
One by one, we pass it off
Liquid price and thoughts to stall
But stay with path of intellect
Colloquial gathering of cabinet that should be
As solve the issues of the world
Within these hallowed walls…
Evening wearing on, happy in our sanctuary
Not aware of dimming lights
Senses all to follow
Louder comes the dialogue
Our diatribe of non approval
I sit next to the president to be
Waiting to advise in whatever capacity
To lead the masses ever better
Than anyone else ever could:
Check the glowing keeper of time
And find our term is done
The doors swing to and fro
Taking our leave one by one
Carry our perfect vision out
Into an unsuspecting world
Conversations hanging over
From liquor thoughts
Of the eve before
And await the next meeting
on the house…
