Not Beer Friday today, but it is the last day of 2008.

Saw an article today on a Sam Adams Chocolate Stout that looked really good, not sure if that is what will be in store for tonight....

On our trek we did stop at our favorite Cajun place, Prejeans.  Mmmmm..... alligator & crawfish.

Mmmmmmmmm Prejeans  :2vrolijk_21:

Jan and i really enjoyed our night there on our trip. Great food (really great) I had the Gumbo and it was 'awesome'.

Excellent service too.

Wow, reply # 3,000 in one of my favorite threads!  Thanks Iski, for starting it all!

I've had a lot of the "dry" Molsen and Labatt products over the last 20 or so years since they became available.  what they did was do away with the maltiness that we expect from a good beer.  The "drys" are easily over powered by hops or high alcohol without the mouth feel to balance them.

Thanks,  Jim!

Not a big fan of Molsons or Labatts - today it is back to my old favorite, Shiner Bock.

Wish we could have joined you & Jan @ Prejeans on your big USA trip, Nige.  Service & food are always great, and the band is good, too.  I had the crawfish 1/2 & 1/2 (ettoufee & fried tails) & an alligator appetizer.  Wife had the snapper with crawfish - excellent.  Gumbo there is always good & original as it gets.

Maybe next time. I wouldn't pass through Lafayette without making a pitstop there for dinner.

Here's a similar pic of Jan in Prejeans with the famous Gator.

A great pic of Jan, Nige!

There is another Cajun Rest. in the area in Beaux Bridge, LA (about 10 miles away) named Mulates that is also very good.  We usually go to Prejeans though.

Flying home last year from Iraq we stopped in Leipzig Germany and I had a beer (or three) from Paulaner...was amazing - more so since I hadn't had beer in 8 months (other then quick trip to Qatar) but it was a memorable beer...  So I sought it out when I got home, pretty good import selection at the Class 6 on base, tried regular old Paulaner here, wasn't the same.

Over Christmas found a sixer of Paulaner Hefe Weizen...SCORE.  Has this amazing clove like finish.  Great beer. Not willing to pay $10.99 at the place I got it over the holiday.  Next time I find it somewhere cheaper going to have to stock up, could see it becoming habit forming.

Also had a Maudite - 8%...packs a punch.  Lots of "stuff" in it, cloudy at the bottom.

Almost all Hefeweizens (wheat beer) have a citrusy clove taste.  That's what makes them so refreshing on a hot day.  I'd certainly remember my 1st beer after 8 months too.  I don't think I've gone that long since I was 12 or so.

My next home brew is a dbl IPA style.  It'll be in the keg in a little over a week.

Never heard of Maudite.  What style is it?

On our trips to the north GA mountains we usually stop at a tavern in Helen. They have Paulaner on tap.  Public grocery stores sell it - sometimes on sale for about a buck a bottle.  Good beer.

Do not remember seeing Maudite. Interesting label.

Had Paulaner beers quite a few times when we have been riding through Germany. As the information says - very refreshing on a hot day.

Weißbier Family
Hefe Weissbier Naturtrüb
Paulaner Hefe-Weißbier is the best-selling beer by the Paulaner Brewery. Specially produced top-fermented yeast is what gives it its unmistakeable character: sparkling light, fruity, and just a tiny bit bitter. Because it is not filtered during the brewing process, it retains its originality and the many vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

Hefe Weissbier Naturtrüb:
12.5% original wort; 5.5% alcohol; 44 kcal/100 ml
