Am in the food biz - for many years.  Hershey changes their milk chocolate formula subtly from time to time to take the flavor profile up to a higher level.  Frito Lay makes highly flavored/colored salty snacks in comparison to their traditional ones.  Why?  Competition has done this already & they do not wish to lose that market segment.

Bud light is dreck.  Absolute dreck. My opinion.  Also gives me a headache - truthfully.  I know more people who drink Bud Light & Miller Lite than anything - they are the vast majority of beer drinkers.

Mass marketing of lower cost products is a time honored tradition - and Bud as well as Miller pour mega millions into advertising their "light" beers.  Watery beers, although they disagree on that point.

Flavored & vitamin water biz is another area people are buying crap in a bottle for high prices yet think they are getting something "special."  They are getting fleeced, specially, I suppose.

Couldn't agree with you more there Mike. I drank Bud Light and Miller Lite when we were over last year and IMHO it was absolute pish. I don't know how anyone can drink the stuff ........it has a foul, harsh taste in your mouth on first tasting and finishes with a revolting backlash that threatens to turn your tonsils into sewerage scrubbers. Give me a good Belgian beer or a a micro brewery craft beer any day.

Price point combined with adverting $$ Nige - in my opinion - is how they do it.  When I first started drinking beer - JAX from a bootlegger in town since no alcohol was legally sold there - it was pizz water. But that was my choice.  Occasionally they would have Falstaff or Schlitz.  $.75 a quart - only size they had. We offered them a buck a quart to for Bud - no way - they would not stock it.  Later on, in my travels, I tried lots of local offerings & found that beer is a many splendored thing.

Being rasied on Guinness, the old bitter bottles, not the new ghlorious charger cans, I always found american lagers watery, still drank enough miller high life to float a boat in...Now with all the great craft brews to be had, there is no excuse to drink crummy beer...

Just had a spot of lunch in the little town of Roslyn, WA around the corner from our mountain house.

The Roslyn Cafe is where they shot some of Northern Exposure.

Caught a Roslyn Brewery local beer with some fish and chips. :2vrolijk_21: :drink: :drink:
