what wat the reason behind the FLH tank?

Better range.  When we get a chance, we ride to the mountains in western NC and many of the rural gas stations there close early.  That extra gallon might be the difference between an easy ride and a long push.  Uphill.  Both ways.

My 1993 FXR has a 111 engine in it and it is thirstier than the 1999, so the FLH tank helps a lot with it.  But more gas never hurts.

The FLH tank is a very easy swap.  Weld a "T" strap on the back that will line up with the bolt holes, and then weld a couple of brackets on the front and that's it, other than paint, and if the tank is the same color, then simply paint the new brackets.  I put the gauges on a handlebar clamp bracket like the FXR-SP and Convertible.  Easy, too, since the wires are already long enough.  You can buy nice FLH tanks on eBay for between $100 and $200 if you look a little.

Bullwinkle, welcome aboard.  Count me in on the request for photos.

I'm a bit of a luddite, it's painful enough to figure out how to turn off the radio in my son's Jeep, much less figuring out how to get the pictures from the camera to the computer.  <grin>

If I need any advice on uploading them, I'll holler.

I'm a bit of a luddite, ...

After a career in technology, I am now a luddite, myself.  Proud of it.  Much happier, too.

What's going on. I own a 99 Blue Flame. Bought used in Chidago in 2002. I now reside in Phoenix. This is a great bike and always turns heads. Mine is completely stock and i intend to keep it that way. Rock on. Cool site.

Sign me up as another Blue FXR3 owner, last six SN are:  951617.

When I bought it, it had a little over 12K miles, ported heads, an S&S carb, and a Red Shift cam.  So far I have put in SE heads worked over by Branch, Wiseco forged pistons, a .560 lift, 240 degree V-Thunder cam,  and worked over CV carb.  I also put on an Electraglide gas tank painted to match.  I still have the stock gas tank if I decide to go back.

Also, I installed cartridge emulators and dual front disk brakes with HHI calipers.  I love the look of the Thunderstar wheel, but even more I enjoy performance and the stock brake was not up to what I wanted.

I know the rarity of this bike and would never do aything that might make it hard to return to stock.

FXRs are great bikes all around and the CVO FXRs, as well as the FXR-SP and FXR Convertible are the best of the bunch, at least as far as I am concerned.

I never could have afforded it if prices stayed so high.  I don't care (for myself) if they fall more, since I don't intend to sell the scoot.  I didn't buy it as an investment.

Hey, Bullwinkle!  I realized as I was updating the registry that we already had you on there thanks to Hoist!'s sleuth work, we just weren't sure if you still had the bike or not.  What month/year did you pick your BLUE3 up?
