Power loss 1st gear
« on: April 13, 2019, 09:34:09 PM »

Have real bad loss of power in 1st gear after bike is hot! Oil is full could it be sign of sumping?

2018 cvo stage 4
5000 miles
No other issues
Stock head pipe with physco slip ons.
Harley Turner

Any help would be appreciated!

If your oil tank is full you have not sumped. When you "sump", all the oil is in the sump, and the tank reads very low. I am concerned about your "Phycso" mufflers. I recently removed a long term Physco from the back seat of my bike and picked up a ton of power in all gears. Best mod I've made in 9 years.

If the Physco Baffles are bigger than 2.25, they will hurt your power. Not just in first gear, all gears. To be completely honest, if you have a Harley Stage IV kit with a 515 cam, stock headpipe and EPA tuning, you have much bigger performance challenges than the mufflers. A lot of Guys are stuck with Harley's warranty intact version of "fast". The good news is, when the warranty is no longer a concern you have a lot of good power options available. The aftermarket is really getting a handle on this new motor.

Yes I had the full sac put in stock pipes was looking for a little more sound but I know head pipe and tuner is the problem! I am not going to mess with warranty but thank you for the info! I appreciate it!

Too Funny

When her odometer hit 50, she started acting up, blowing fuses and shorting out over nothing. Maintenance cost skyrocketed. The top hole started making a lot more noise yet would close tight if you tried put a plug in it? Lower end started acting up too. Morning rides were out of the question. Even it you managed to get her started, the clutch would slip as soon as you goosed it a little too much and she would just stall out? I tried oil changes, lube, nothing would bring the RPM even close to redline. Finally, I took the back rest off, popped the clutch and pulled the longest wheelie ever.

Steve, too many of us have gone through those same diagnostics and, fortunately, found the fix.  Some poor bastards just refuse to do the troubleshooting and continue suffering the poor rideability or even the ride just saying, "nope fatboy, not getting on today."

Mine was giving her personal trainer rides. After nine years that's a tough pill to swallow. I still have a bad taste in my mouth.

Oh yeah, anytime one of these machines can't remember who's responsible for filling the tank it's time to look for younger trade in.

It's amazing the things you can find at the surplus and returns desk.  The smart ones learn that sometimes a discount just isn't worth the trouble with some systems.  It's kind of like fishing; there's a reason some are catch and release.

Steve sorry to hear all this but this was the funniest thing I have read in a long time.  Clearly you are moving on. Having replaced my "Psycho" years ago I am sure you will find a much improved accessory for your bike (and life)!
