Title: Baker 7-Speed Transmission
Post by: UFO_HOG on January 04, 2009, 02:51:56 PM
http://www.bakerdrivetrain.com/cruisedrive/index.htm#dd7

Anyone done this or think it would be worth the money and performance to change to it?

You'd be shifting non-stop.  Isn't 6 speeds enough?

I agree. I feel like I have to shift all the time with the CruiseDrive 6 as it is.

Spoke to the Baker guys at The Baker booth about the DD7. They've dropped 1st gear a bit lower and made all the gears a bit closer together. 7th is still a 1:1 ratio in the tranny, I think.

Bottom line, I think you'll be shifting more a lower speeds... in addition to already shifting more at cruising speeds (compared to a 5-speed).

I'm a bit leery...

They have to do soemthing to distinguish themselves from the mother ship or they no longer have a product offering for the newer bikes.  Just because you don't need it doesn't mean they don't have to offer it.

I was going to say, bikes are going to sound like 16 wheelers with that many gears!  ;D

I read about it in this months V-Twin ,  I 'm quite happy with my 6 , the only thing I'd like to dump is the whine , which isn't really that bad.  I think the gear spacing is great ,  much better than the last 2 5 speeds I had ( a 3.37 and  a 3.15)

If you want to get rid of the 5th gear whine, Baker has a product called F6F (see http://www.bakerdrivetrain.com/cruisedrive/index.htm#f6f (http://"http://www.bakerdrivetrain.com/cruisedrive/index.htm#f6f")). It replaces the stock straight-cut gears for 5th with helical cut gears. It also includes a new tranny door and bearings and so forth to beef up the CruiseDrive 6.

If that's not enough for you, Baker also has the F6R which will adds a reverse gear to the CruiseDrive 6.

Thanks!
