Motorcycle Resort in Blairsville, GA
« on: August 30, 2007, 12:46:30 PM »

Has anyone seen this motorcycle resort located in the mountainous area of Blairsville, GA?  Looks to be new, with a lodge, and with lots and small cabins for sale.  I wonder if it would be a suitable location for a CVO gathering to check it out?  www.copperheadlodge.com  Forty acres and motorcycle friendly :2vrolijk_21:

Just checked out the website, and it looks like a nice place. :2vrolijk_21: What is that area like for riding? Any good roads/places to take day trips to?

Yes, yes and yes. Lots of good roads, some pretty technical and others good for cruising. Plus, its not too far from lots of good riding in TN and NC. You can also check out Suches, GA, Dahlonega, GA, Helen, GA, Highlands, NC. They're all real close by, within 1 to 2 hours ride.

Check out this book: Motorcycle Adventures in the Southern Appalachians
North Georgia, Western North Carolina, East Tennessee
Way too much to ride in just the few days we'd get together.

I've been to the area just south of there...Hiawasee, Helen, Dahlonega...and the roads remind me somewhat of the roads in the Smokey Mountain area...mostly two lane, curvy, hilly, some really great riding in the area.  There is a well known eatery, the Smith House. I believe it's in Dahlonega.  Elevations are pretty high, with a lot of wooded mountains.  Led a group to Helen last year, a tourist trap that gets crowded, but didn't ride all the way up to Blairsville because the weather turned sour.  A lot of lakes and scenery in the area too.

Some of you guys with the deep pockets should just invest in one of the cabins, then rent it out to the po' folks like me when we need to get away.

Very nice place....looks like an excellent business plan.  I should just sell the house and move there...

That's about all I could do, AJ...I'm broke as a Haint right now, and have got to start saving my pocket change for my motor.

One of these weekends in fall or early winter, we should all meet and do some riding in that area.  We could just stay in Motel Chief, or Motel Tbone, or maybe even Motel FlyinWillie.... ;D ;D

Add to that they don't have the rates posted for the rooms at the lodge. Reminds me of the saying.... "If you got to ask you can't afford it". :nervous:

Looks like a great place and from what those that know are saying it would be a nice place to ride at. I've already plotted it out from my house and it's just shy of 500 miles. So that makes it doable. Now if I can afford it. ;D

Thanks. :2vrolijk_21: When I clicked on the lodging page and was reading about the rooms I missed that link at the top. Read at the bottom "For rates and availability, please call 706-745-8000" and thought they weren't anywhere on the site.

If you want a Georgia motorcycle resort, there is a nice one over in Suches,  TWO, Two Wheels Only.  Neat place, no rules, been there a few times, and for events, larger ones, they have another piece of property around the corner for the BBQ's en masse, and also used as grass runway too.

If they run out of room, I stayed in Dalhonega at a very motorcycle friendly motel. Cant recall that name now, but TWO is ok by me.

Anyway, here is the link.    http://www.twowheelsonly.com/

A little more investigating shows quite a few motorcycle resorts in GA and the surrounding area. I am surprised, but they are popping up it looks like.  So, someone make a plan, lets do it, Octoberfest in Helen, GA is a real hoot.

Motel Tbone is always open unless we're on a trip somewhere, just let us know.  It's hard to find any better fall riding than the North Georgia mountains.

It looks like a great place to have a fall gathering! We spent a week in Elijay, GA about 10 years ago, didn't own the bikes then, and we stayed in a timeshare chalet on the side of mountain. I remember it being a beautiful area but you had to drive a long way to get anywhere. On a motorcycle, though, it's all about the ride and it would not be boring that is for sure.

Pinkie and I took a ride today, visiting some of the places we'd most likely visit if we had a N. GA GTG. Hopefully the pics Pinkie took will give you a look at some of the great riding we've got here in N. GA.

First, the track.

We stopped in Dahlonega for lunch. This is the old courthouse which is now the Dahlonega Gold Museum. There was a mini gold rush here many years ago.

Leaving North out of Dahlonega, you'll come across Woody Gap, the first of two places we'll cross the Appalachian Trail today.

just before getting to Unicorporated Suches. Suches is the home of TWO (Two Wheels Only) Motorcycle Resort. The place is owned and operated by two ex-chefs. It's a great place to stop in for a meal.

With a great big porch and comfortable chairs, its a great place to hang out for the afternoon. The inside is done up real comfortable too. My pictures didn't come out well.

After leaving TWO, we head up HWY 180, Wolf Pen Gap Rd. Here we pass the lodging for the upcoming CVO GTG. I hear the ventilation is really good in this place.

This sport bike came up as we were cruising along so I waved him by. Now I had someone to pace the ride. So we turned it up a notch or two and played with him for a bit.

I still see you..... After we caught up to the group in front of us, Pinkie says, "Let's not race any more sport bikes." I told her, "I wasn't racing, just following."

I will say, the brake pads I got from Traxxion are totally awesome. The way you can haul this heavy bike down so quickly and easily is absolutely amazing. I'll never give them back. I just hope I can get some more when these are gone.

Off of Wolf Pen Gap Road and now headed to Helen. Beautiful blacktop on the Richard B. Simmons Scenic Byway (or something like that).

We make it into Helen, GA. Helen used to be a lumber town. When the lumber industry moved away, they decided to turn the soon-to-be ghost town into a tourist town by making it into a quaint Alpine town. Their big season is Octoberfest which runs from mid-September, into November. It's a lot of fun, but truly dreadful getting into and out of town. Traffic will be lined up for miles coming in from the South. Hint: Come in from the North.

The End.

Helen is very near the head waters for the Chatahoochie River, the river that runs through Atlanta. Tubing on the river is both a popular thing to do, and watch.

To anyone who wants to explore the N. GA mountains, I say c'mon, lets go. We've got some really great riding roads and plenty of places to stop along the way for a cold one.

I think Pinkie did an awesome job on her first BSR photo assignment. It gave her something to do besides wacking me on the head when things start going by too fast. I could really tell when the road was starting to get her attention as I could feel her starting to hold on tighter with her knees, but she just kept on clicking away, trying to get more great shots for everyone to enjoy.

We had a great time. Maybe next time you'll be there to enjoy it with us.

:indian_chief:

P.S. This was Pinkie's birthday ride. Wednesday is her 29th. Happy Birthday Pinkie, I love you.

Chief, I'm checking the calender now. We've got MV07 10/10-15. I've got a wedding 11/2 (Friday). So it looks like 11/10 (Veterns Day W/E) or 11/17. After that it's Thanksgiving.

No, not at all. I'm sure he could have been gone if he really wanted to, but I do think he was surprised that we didn't just disappear behind him. I do admit to grinding the boards a bit, sorry d00d, but we were just playing follow the leader for awhile. It was fun to stretch the girl's legs out.

Silly man.  ;D MV 08 wouldn't be MV 08 if it weren't in MV. TWO is a resort in name only. While many do camp there, it is mainly a place to stop in for a bite to eat. There's not too much to do in the immediate area, besides ride to somewhere else.

There are many places to stay that would be more to the liking of members, and their wives.

Ditto........... just came back from Helen for 7 days!! Some of the prettiest riding I have been on. Really enjoyed it

How true.  What was I thinking?  Even an ersatz MV still needs to be in MV!  I really am a big fan of the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" school.  MV certainly isn't broken.

Sounds good to me!  Something for those of us unable to attend Sedona or something in late May/early June would be nice.  Good weather in the mountains that time of year.  I'd really like to check this place out...looks excellent.  Go out riding in the daytime, park the scoots, wash them if needed, then eat on the premises so we can have more  :drink: :drink:

Please don't let this event coincide with Sedona. We want to do both. It would be a shame to miss an event in our own back yard.

I was thinking later in May anyway, Chuck.  Or early to mid June is a nice time of year up there, as the rains have slacked off a bit.

There will likely be an unofficial GTG here in B'ham for the AMA races next year...usually the 3rd weekend in April, so keep that on your radar screen as well.

That looks do-able.  :2vrolijk_21:

For those that might be interested in a slightly more laid back atmosphere than the biker lodge, there's Blood Mountain Cabins Sounds like a real quiet place for those that would enjoy doing some hiking. They're only 150 yards off of the Appalachian Trail. Lots of waterfalls too.

I spoke to the proprietor of Copperhead Lodge this AM.

On-site lodging is limited. They have 11 hotel rooms and 8 cabins, sleeping 4-6 each. Any overflow is handled by one of the two hotels in Blairsville.

This is a dry county but they have a 'membership club' to handle this.

It sounds like a great place to go for an event, but depending on other people trying to stay there, housing may become an issue.

What about a rolling GA/MV 08 GTG? First half of the week ride around GA area and the last half of the week would be in MV.

I will be passing through there Sept 28 on way down to Panama City. I think I'll check it out, looks like a good day ride and over night stop from southern GA. john

AJ,

So, the November trip is just for scouting the area, sorry, don't mind me sometimes I got confused  :dizzy2:.

It may be too cold up there for me then anyway. I don't have all that fancy heated gear like some of you guys have.

The "scouting" part is a bit sarcastic. It's a GTG & all are welcome & encouraged to come!
