Let's just say it's pretty obvious when one has been any distance on the Dalton Hwy.

A group of us finished a SS1000 on Saturday nite/Sunday morning.  I saw a guy as he was leaving from there- riding to Alaska, and going to try to set a record- Purdhoe Bay to Key West in under 100 hours....frickin lunatic... 8)

Trapperdog,

Crusty's bike looks to be a R1150/1200 GS or GSA, great bikes, I had one I referred to it as my SUV bike, have not gone to Alaska, I had my R1150 GSA at the CVO Nelson GTG as my Jims 120 had grenaded and that all I had left till my Jims was replaced.

You can pick up some good used R1150s or 1200 for reasonable pricing. Sign up for the ADV website www.advrider.com and check out the Bikes For Sale Section you will find a lot of great deals.

geezer, I may look into that as I don't think my XR400 dual sport or my CR250 would make it  ;D !  Been thinking about an 1100 VStrom but....

Must have been John Ryan. When we were up there last year, he was making a run at it... got a flat and missed the 96 hour record by 3-4 hours. He is one bad-ass LD riding mo-fo!

I love my GS... that thing is an f-ing tank!

It is too big to to get too nutty on... but it does all right. I managed to get around to some of the cool sites in Death Valley on it!

Good thing is, they take a licking and keep on ticking!!

lol... seems like a good idea on paper... but don't think you'd be the first to try it. I'm guessing after one or two folks trashing their rental bikes, I am sure whatever contract they end up having you sign heavily weighs in their favor and would likely result in being a pretty expensive venture for those who decide to chance it.
